Re: anyone painted their headlights into blackhousing? (jin05)
alot of people have done it, i have done it to my eg lights.
you really should search for this but im gonna tell ya how.
take off headlight, take off the black plastic piece on the headlights and the metal clips
put headlight in oven for about 5 min at 250° - 300°F
take out and slowly pry the headlight apart. may have to rebake.
then once apart mask off and paint, to put back together just place them back together and push as hard as you can,
then put them back in oven for about 3 min at the same temp
, pull out and push them back together again, and put the metal clips back on
if you want pictures, do a search

your not supposed to paint the whole thing black, just the outer edges.
dunno if you can see it well but should look like this on an EG

i also covered the yellow reflector which dimmed my side marker which i think looks real good but again just go 2 wallmart pick up one can of flat black engine enamel and one can of low gloss black engine enamel... the reason i did this was because flat black sticks best the gloss tends to run so with base coats of black i used one low gloss coat and then filled in the missed shots just make sure to use conservative layers if you use to much youll have the paint dripping and grouping up in some spots

just watch out u dont bake it too much.
that happend to me, haha, that sucks man, i was too busy wet sanding the chrome off the inner part of the other headlight that i kinda fogot about the other one being in the oven so a peace of the clear plastic got all these little bubles on them and its whitesh ensted of being all clear. so im looking for another headlight and ill have to do this all over again.
heres some pics:
this is how the other one turned out.

I have an EG and i did the DIY black housing. Follow the directions he gave you with baking it in the oven, thats what i did, and mine came out great. Make sure you seal the outer edges with black silicone though, because you dont want water to condensate in there and fog them up. mine came out perfect and it took less than an hour total.

yes, the car belonged to some old lady and they came with the fogs from the factory she said.
i repainted them gloss black the other day.
something else, you may want to sand and primer the part you will be painting, i didnt and it ran into the part thats not supposed to be painted, i had to use alcohol and gently rub it off and it took 2 hours to do. take your time with this, if you get them too hot in your oven the chrome can crack and flake off as well. mine did that and now i need new headlights (even tho mine work fine, the light output was affected a little)
