Default Anyone have any experiences with a ZEX camshaft with your D16Z6

I was wondering which cam to get for my D16Z6... its an automatic, im deciding between the street (59100) or the street/strip (59300)... any past experiences and comments would help me choose... thanks... also any 1/4 mile times? or hp tests done? also will either of the cams affect my idle? thanks greatly for the help, because im primarily looking for a torque increase.. THANKS EVERYONE

I got the street/strip in my ride right now. It's pretty good, just gotta get it tuned on a dyno with a cam gear. It idles a little lumpy, but it gets me stoked. Right now, the mid range power is way better than stock, and high end feels a little laggy. As soon as I get it all dialed in correctly, I was going to post up times/power figures. Don't even bother with the street one, very little difference. You can run with the street/strip with stock valvetrain, just don't over rev.

what exactly do you mean by over rev?

I installed myself. Took about 45 minutes to an hour. Make sure you torque everything down and break in the cam correctly.

What I mean by over revving, is not going over the stock rev limit, such as 7200 revs with the stock valve train. The street/strip cam can produce power to 7800, but upgrade your valvetrain before revving that high. If you plan on running this cam, I would suggest, with time permitting(and money), to pull the head, get a valve job and new valve guides, headgasket, and upgrade your springs/retainers so you can achieve full potential.

yea i had this cam before and installed myself as well. made good mid-range power and i felt a little more up top as well. never got a chance to get it dyno tuned tho. it was worth the money for the sohc.

which cam are u reffering to? the 59100 street or the 59300 street/strip? because zex told me the street cam has a stock idle, but the person above u mentioned that the idle was rough on the street/strip ...anyone else know? thanks

ZEX makes good valvetrain components.

And yes, my street/strip cam lobes a little at idle.

Whats the recommended break-in for the cam? Kinda like any other part? drive it like a baby for a certain amount of miles?

oh i had the 59300 street/strip. yea the idle was slightly lumpier, but probably nothing that any passerby would notice. i guess when you really know your car you can hear the difference but most people won't even know. and since we're on the topic of sounds, with the cam the vtec switchover was more noticeable and there was a little more growl in the exhaust note. if your gonna get the zex, just go for the street/strip

And you don't need new retainers/springs with the 59300 (as long as you keep the stock rev limit)?

Does this go for the D16Y8 cam as well?

yeah, you will be safe. But there's a loss of potential without upgrading the valvetrain/ecu to feel the gains of the cam at the higher revs
