anyone gone catless and kept their car quiet?
So at this time I have all the usual bolt ons on my 99 si, greddy header, aem intake, matrix fart can, and my resonator has a straight pipe welded in its place. Being out of high school I have grown tired of having a loud car. However I still want the car to have as much power as it can while remaining quiet. My car recently began throwing a p0420, catalyst below threshold. So I'm thinking I'm just going to hollow out the cat and convert the car to obd1 since there is no smog in my area. Does anyone know a good high flow muffler that is decently quiet on a catless, resonatorless car? If not ill probly just go back to oem muffler but I would still like something that has a nice tone but won't make my car sound like a ricey raspy pos. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Raspy is right. Catless is not only illegal, it sounds annoying. Been there, done that.
That little bit of drag that cat causes really lends to a good exhaust note.
A straight pipe instead of a resonator doesn't helps either.

my car isnt that loud granted i find the sound of it a little annoying, but i used a rsx type s muffler and it serves its purpose. im catless two and a half inch piping all the way back until the muffler which is two and a quarter. keeps me from getting pulled over but i think im going to buy another muffler once i get it running again.

With the cat failed I was hoping to find a way to get rid of it without forking over 800 dollars for a new one. Will a failed cat clog if I leave it on the car and don't replace it?

Im running catless and mufflerless, only a magnaflow resonator, and it sounds real mean.. but its pretty loud so probably not a good option.
my teg is catless with a resonator and oem muffler and it sounds real raspy and annoying as hell. Im pretty sure its the oem muffler making it sound so bad, but thats just my dd so I dont really care.

I've got DC headers and a full GReddy exhaust 2.5" all the way back with a test pipe and a resonator on my eg hatch and its extremely quiet unless I bury my foot in the throttle but even then it's got an amazing tone. My friend is pissed because he forked out almost $600 after shipping for his invidia exhaust and I paid just over $150 for mine (full exhaust system, header and all, with no dents or anything from someone local), and they somewhat sound similar in tone. I was surprised at how quiet it was for it having no cat.

"Quiet" is a relative term unless it's used in a comparison to something else. What might pass as quiet to one person might be unacceptably loud to someone else.

Re: anyone gone catless and kept their car quiet?
i swapped my stock exhaust manifold for a header, (which does away with the cat on a dx) i had a loud *** fart can as well but i got tired of listening to it every day so i just had a stock muffler made and put a tip on it. its always quiet unless i floor it and then it has a mild tone.

I have a testpipe with my WS2 catback and it adds a nice rasp to the quiet deep tone it already has, far from annoying. I get compliments from people about how nice my exhaust sounds, trust me it means something coming from guys in domestics.

I have a DC 4-1, Skunk2 Test pipe and a Mugen Twin Loop. No raspyness and its REALY quiet plus I have about the same throttle response and top end pull that was there with no muffler. And yes i did drive around with a header& Test pipe for a while. and yes I did get a sound ordanance ticket, haha.
