anyone else get a funky ticking noise from their valvetrain??
ok, so on my LS/VTEC Teg, i have a B16 head. for some reason i am getting this weird ticking kind of moise. it sounds kinda like valve tick, but my valves were just adjusted a couple months back so that shouldn't be a problem. anyways, when VTEC engages, the noise goes away. i figure it must have something to do with the pushrods on the VTEC rockers. if anyone has had similar problems, please, let me know

Lets see....
First, I would recheck the valve clerances. Sometimes they are just off...
If that checks out, I'd look to the injectors. They are a common source of noise. Are they new? Maybe its time to rebild/replace them.

On injectors can you run fuel injector cleaner on them? I know some injectors you cant. Will that help this problem?

ok, that doens't make sense..... if it's the injectors making noise, then why would it go away once it goes into VTEC??

Take a look at your Lost Motion asseblies.
If you are going to re-check the valve clearences, you can check the LMA's at the same time. As you check/adjust the valves, grab the middle rocker and try to move it up and down. The LMA should keep the rocker pretty much pressed against the cam. If the rocker moves freely, the LMA may be bad.
I have a few bad ones myself and the click the same way. I'm waiting for the rebiuld to replace.

had the same problem with my brothers b-16
turns out the one of the lost motion ***. was sticking
never fixed it but it comes and goes

yeah, i know what detonation sounds like, and it sounds nothing like it. LMA is most likely what it is, that what i thought it was from the begining, i just couldn't think what the damn things were called. i was just curious if something like that was actually possible or not

5 bucks says its worn primary rocker arms.
These arms wear faster beacuse 90% of the time your motor is running on the small lobe. No ticking when vtec is activated because vtec rocker arm is still in good shape.
Check inside diameter on the rocker arm AND outside diameter of the rocker arm shaft. Clearance should not be too big.
