Default Anyone else break the handle for the hood latch?

Hey all. Dumbass move on my part; I broke the interior handle for the hood latch on the weekend. Has anyone else been in this situation? I'm just trying to size up what kind of job it's going to be to replace it.

Thanks

Greg

Mine was broken when I got it AND the cable was snapped half way into the engine bay...that's right: the hood wouldn't open. I had to take the front bumper scews out of the fenders and undo all the underplating and fish around for about 15 minutes before I could wedge a screwdriver in the right part of the hood latch aparatus. Once it was open, My brother and I replaced the whole cord/assembly in about 20 minutes. Not that tough.

On my sisters old car (97 EX coupe) and my freinds car (96 hatch) both bit the dust. The cable is pretty inexpensive just a pain to swap it out.

i just finished replacing mine last weekend. my friend has a domestic and was a dumbass by not thinking and pulled up on mine instead of straight back like your suppose to. It was a pain in the *** to me. I had to remove the drivers side wheel, the plastic cover inside the fender well, the front bumber and the inside trim panel that surrounds the latch pull. I found one fortunately at a local salvage yard for $8.00. Make sure you remember the exact routing around the condenser, behind the headlight and which wires it goes between inside the car. Good Luck with this, it was a pain in the *** for me... i think ill charge him 30.00 for my time and the cable.. damn domestic boys.

Oooo Oooo I did. At first I needed pliers. After it cut the left over plastic all to hell using those makes it easier so I can just use my hand now. No biggie.

Hehehe, damn dealer broke mine. Went in for an oil change and ended up taking them 3 hours for the oil change and the cable repair. Had to do the whole shabang.

yup, that's how i did it on my old hatch, except i didn't take the wheel off or bumper, because my grill wasn't screwed in from behind like it was supposed to be. i took the grill off and got to the latch, popped out a couple clips in the fender linder (just enough to stick my hand in there), and the plastic panel inside. it WAS a pain in the ***, and took some time. my dumbass friend broke mine (he has an integra, which has a different style hood popper). one more thing; you paid $8 from a junkyar, you could've just paid $8 and got one from a dealer, in which case you wouldn't have had to go through the hassle of taking it off another car. as for the clips on the cable, its not a big deal where you pop them in. just one or two places will be enough to hold it.

mine was like that when i bought the car. now all i do is pull the ball at the end of that wire. it works fine just a little ghetto. when i go race i tuck it underneath the drivers side carpeting to make sure it doesnt get caught in my feet.but it really isnt that bad im just making absolutely sure.
