Default Anyone in Detroit

Are there any forum members in Michigan/Detroit? I need to have the engine on my 94 Del Sol VTEC replaced, and I'm looking for a recommendation for a mechanic.

Even if you're not from Michigan, can you recommend a source for the engine? So far most have recommended hmotorsonline.

Thanks for any help anyone's got.

Good luck...Ive never found a good shop, personally.
Ive heard some good things, recently, about Forward Motion Motorsports (4580 High St, Ecorse) http://www.fm-motorsport.com

Whats wrong with the engine btw? Will you be keeping the tranny?

Ok, here's where it becomes obvious I don't know doink about my car. It was overheating one day..guage shot up, and I saw smoke. I pulled over, and called for a tow to a shop I really trust. They said I blew the engine. What that means exactly, to what extent, I have no clue. What I did get the sense of was that this shop was not the one to put a new one in, or tell me much. They were great for little stuff, but they didn't even know where to look for an engine, or suggest rebuilding.

So the Sols sitting in my driveway, driving me crazy everytime I look at it, and I have no clue what to do next. I can't say I know exactly what I need. I'd take it to a shop and hear them out if I had any reason to believe they knew what they were doing with this car.

Thanks for writing, and I'll look into the shop you mentioned.

Hmm, yeah its hard to say what happened to your engine. It could be lots of things, from just a simple blown head gasket or it could be more serious. As long as the cylinder walls arent cracked, it can always be rebuilt for surprisingly little.
If I had more free time Id offer my help...

Sucks Payn is gone. He has been in the game for a while, and he used to do domestics all the time too. Very Knowledgable. A couple of other shops that I KNOW of are Auto Addictions and Autowerks. One's in Rochester Hills and one is at 10 mile and Dequindere. If you want either of their numbers, pm me.

I live in east lansing and I am a tech for Lincoln. And believe you me, this wouldn't be the first Honda motor that me and my friend have done. PM me if you are interested.

Oh and BTW I got my motor from JDM Honda Parts, it was very clean and they have excellent customer service as well.

Payn is closed.

They were broken into and several items were stolen. Me and my friends used to take our cars their for tuning and what not, now all that is left is Godspeed and one other that I can't remember the name of. And I refuse to take my car to either.

JDM-97CX...I can't PM, maybe because I'm a trial user. Drop me a line at mattsomni@aol.com, and we'll talk. What did you pay for the engine? B16?

Thanks all who have posted information.

They have good prices on parts and that's about the only thing that isn't wrong with them. I wouldn't trust Dan to tune my car. I have seen way too many cars blow up there.

Jim at Fast Motion, or Tim at Unleaded Racing in Downriver/Wyandot on Eureaka.

Likely I'd be called in to do the swap since Tim can't seem to get his head out of his *** sometimes.

Rumor I heard, the engine builder for Payn Techn was going to work for Jim @ FMM when he opens his new shop. Hell I might even fit in!
