Anybody read the Tech article in Honda Tuning???
I just finished reading the tech about the CRX turbo setup for under $300. I will quote some ish..."For the turbo, I felt that a stock Eclipse blower would be in better shape...We also found a stock Eclipse intercooler from the same model year ('95-'99) that cost $30...(The HF model CRX) has an exhaust manifold that can be mistaken for a turbo manifold." What do you guys think about doing this cheap upgrade and is it worth my time. I have a '93 DX hatch and could do this easily if it is semi-reliable and something that has been proven by others. My Puerto Rican friend in the city did this basic setup with a '98 EX motor in his '91 SI hatch...it seems to work although a little rich. Your opinions are more than welcome.

Re: Anybody read the Tech article in Honda Tuning??? (GTlvr82)
I had this setup done in my 00 civic with the stock engine, it ran 13.5 @ 99. (On slicks). Actually i was using a t3/4 though.
I have the footage, it looked fast but felt slow due to the long dx gearing. Anyway dont boost more than 7 lbs..i was at 9 and it lasted about 6 months .. weak point, rings.
lost a little compression in the 3rd cylinder.
Good luck.

Turbo for under $300? Good luck. You can find a turbo setup for under a grand but it will be very cheap and very minimal.

You can do it for under $300 if you are willing to dig around long enough in a junkyard and can fabricate your own parts. Personally I wouldn't do it. Even if you go custom, take your time and assemble your kit with quality parts. As people always say :
You have fast, reliable, and cheap... Pick 2... You can't have all 3.

Heres a pic of my old set up..
After this motor was replaced with a 95 twin cam zc, we put it on a dyno (same boost set up).
It made 203 hp and 175 torque, .. i will look around and see if i can find that dyno print out.

check out www.homemadeturbo.com
It is a website dedicated to stuff like this. They seem to have a lot of information on doing this turbo kit. But if you want to buy a nice *** d-series turbo kit check out my sig. Thanks and good luck.

Turbo for under $300? Good luck.
typically, you get what you pay for. its unfortunate you cant boost affordably

The idiots in Honda Tuning didn't seem to address fueling (if I remember that article) I seem to remember them saying you don't need to upgrade the fuel system under 4psi ? LOL.... w/e guys...
Fueling is what will keep your motor from blowing... Even if you COULD find all the turbo parts at the dog cheep prices they quoted AND managed to do all the fabricating yourself (good luck), I don't think you'll maintain a $300 budget. Not to mention, you never know if a junkyard turbo needs new seals... how well the BOV works...etc.... it's from a junkyard....
A local guy did a similar setup (HF mani trick) for under $700, but I'd recommend at least a vafc and some bigger injectors for any type of reliability. But no matter what you spend, boost gets expensive cuz you will ALWAYS find something that needs to be upgraded.

http://www.thedropshop.tv/vafc.htm has an article on fuel tuning with a v-afc in place of an fmu.. (Worth reading,if you are into the budget boost).
