Anybody in NOVA have access to a bushing press??
I have a set of rear trailing arms off a 94 si hatch that I am about to install on my 93 cx but I would like to replace the bushings before hand. Can anyone help me? I know you can torch the existing bushings out but you need a press to put the new ones in correct? CDE just quoted me $70-$90 to put 2 bushings in.

Here is the method that only the true masters know:
Take the new LCA's and torch the old bushings till all the rubber is gone.
Then get out a hacksaw and remove its blade
Place the blade through the now vacant hole in the LCA and saw out the metal sleeves.
Hammer them out with a drift once they are loose.
Then insert the new bushings. You can almost do it by hand. Use a vice or somethign similar.
That is for Poly bushings. Im not sure on how to reinstall stock ones.

Re: Anybody in NOVA have access to a bushing press?? (White Lightnin)
I was told about this method by a friend already and you are right on the money.......but for the price of a torch, hachsaw, vice grip, etc... I could just get the shop to do it for half the time. I'm just trying to get the hook up for a 20 min. job with a press. Paying the charge is not a problem, I would rather pay a friend or H-T member.

Like White lightning said you can torch those out but pressing the new ones in will be the challenge.
Anybody else?

I did mine a couple weekends ago and it took about 5 minutes each to press the old one out and the new one in. Too bad I'm in MD.

Are you doing stock or poly bushings?
Im thinking you'd need a press for stock ones b/c of the metal sleeves. Poly ones go in with little trouble.
All the tools are cheap too.

Where in MD are you? I'd be willing to meet you. The trailing arms are OFF the car.

if they are ES bushing you dont take out the shell. just remove the rubber and install. you can use large washers and a bolt and nut to press them in. (the install pics that come with the bushings show this method) a lil tip to help you out is to put the bushing in the freezer overnight before you install them. they'll shrink a tad and it becomes a lil easier to install. still a pain in the *** tho
