Any way to a make a decent D trans without B series money?
Yeah. I just need to know is there a way to make a decent D hydro trans without spending as as I would on a B16 trans?
I dont feel like going to a B swap, because there are other being taken care of on my EJ7, a repair from a side swipe, and RHD conversion. Its already enough money, but I am planning going from a HX to a turbo DOHC ZC. Of course a Y5 trans is not suitable, and nor is a Z6 or Y8 one. I had a EJ1 before I swapped it to B16/LS trans I had stock trans, then after blowing that trans had a hatch Si trans.
Then I had a ZC CRX with real ZC trans (short gears) that was much better than Z6 or LS gears. I heard its even better if you use a USDM Si FD. I think it was shorter than my M2B4 LSD H22 trans. I want that kind of gearing for my swap. But you cant put a ZC trans in a EK or ZC gears in a hydro case, you are stuck with hydro. What gear options are there for hydro, that wouldnt defeat the cost-cutting measure of having a ZC?

get a zc trans, and a busted ex trans and put the zc 3-4-5 in your hx case.
it can be done, best bet is to check my site, because I've posted more info about building d-series trans than you'd ever want to know
the following oem setup is possible
1st = 3.25
2nd = 1.909 (y8) or 1.900 (z6)
3rd = 1.346 (dohc cable zc)
4th = 1.066 (92-95 vx/cx 3rd gear as 4th)
5th = 0.878 (dohc cable zc)
final = 4.25 (y8 / z6)
or just get a ex trans and a mfactory 3/5 kit
I made my first D hybrid with $250, I then sold it for $600
