Any idea how much could be removed from a P72 cylinder head?

Default Any idea how much could be removed from a P72 cylinder head?

I had an idea for using B16B rods, and an LS crank in a GSR block with 84mm pistons, but the compression would be stupid high, like 17:1. If I could remove about 13cc from the head/pistons and use a thick cometic head gasket, I could get it down low enough.

I'm not totally planning on doing this, but I'm curious how hard it would be to do. I'm thinking that milling the combustion chambers out to 84mm, deshrouding the valves and maybe removing some material from the quench pads would do it along with modified pistons, but I'm not sure.

Why would you go through all of that trouble? Why not just do a B20/VTEC, with aftermarket pistons and call it a day? What's the purpose of using the B16B rods?

Well my plan is to just take a B18C and have an LS crank and bore out to 84mm or so. Bam, GSR/B20 with a stronger bottom end. That's boring though, many people have done it and it looks darn easy.

However, longer rods would improve the rod/stroke ratio, making it a little more durable and safer to rev fast. I worked it out already and I know it's only a very slight difference in the rod/stroke ratio, .06:1 difference between the typical LS/VTEC setup versus using B16B rods. I don't think it would be worth it after having to buy custom aftermarket rods (can't find B16B Eagle, Crower or Scat rods) and probably pistons. That's like $1200 or so right there. If someone had diagrams of various pistons or knew of someone who's done it, it would just be interesting to see if it could at least be done.
