Any easy cheap ways to hook up a 95 Civic EX?
So just bought a 95 Civic EX and was wondering.
Anyone have any good cheap ideas to hook it up and make it go faster?
I know kind of an open question but I have seen online people doing turbos and stuff but do you really want to turbo a V-tech??
I just want whatever I do to it not blow it up but have some zip to it...
Any Ideas?
Thanks

You really need serious engine work and/or a turbo to make civics go fast. That's the general rule of thumb.
b18c5, h22, k20a are about the only engines that are really peppy in their stock form. The b18c5 mostly due to the LSD transmission and it's short gears.

theres nothing cheap that you can do no.. adding a cold air intake, header and exhaust might give you 10-15hp, mainly it will just make you car louder and for the money they cost I think its a waste.. build the crap out of the motor, boost it or both. You have fast, cheap and reliable, pick 2 and the 3rd is what its not.

Nothin wrong with a turbo v. When its in vtec. It just makes the lift higher and duration longer. Turbo cars respond better to longer lift and higher duration. Best thing i can tell u if your new to this is put a cold air intake and headers and exaust. Other.little bolt ons here and there. Lets face it we all started somewhere. Swaps can be pricey so work ur way up to one. Happy tuning

DC Sports header
AEM cold air intake
Front/rear Camber kits
Blox/skunk2 LCAs
Catback 2.25 or 2.5" exhaust
VAFC
Chassis bracing
high flow cat
And now you've spent $1700+ and all you have done is shifted your power band around a little bit and make more noise.
My god, it's true. Each year the new kids get worse.

Do a search, as many have said before, see what your budget can afford, power(Hp) goal are, what is the cars purpose: drag, street, track, etc.
There is no real way of a "cheap mod". Bolt ons will add very little HP, not enough to feel a BIG difference in making your honda go fast.
and please...its VTEC not a Telephone...
Here are some places to check out to get you started on your way...
Basic engine swap info-

Re: Any easy cheap ways to hook up a 95 Civic EX?
swaps but then again you need to make a budget first
b18c1 I/H/E won't get you far so i'd get a b18c5
if you can afford it and are a little more engineering/tech machinest type of person you could go H2B swap or k20 swap
and before you go on egay for JDM engines remember if your in Cali BAR won't let them pass.
Check junk yards and salvage car yards before you go pay overpriced amounts for some import engine.
b16,b18c1,b20,b18B/Z only make your civic zippier stock not "faster"
to the guy way above who said b18c5 is best for short gears you do know those are the longest B series tranny gears right?
b16 tranny with b18c would make you pretty faster but....
remember make your budget and go off that, and MOST IMPORTANT: DO YOUR RESEARCH

Back when I rolled sohc only, I used to spray on those motors all day. If I blew the motor, it was only $100-$200 to buy another motor, drop it in, and spray til it popped. Lol. Now even a good sohc is $350 and up... people used to throw those damn things in the dumpster when they did a swap.
That being said, CHEAP power can be had from a bottle, but like lunareg said, you only get 2/3. Time to think about budget and priorities.

Re: Any easy cheap ways to hook up a 95 Civic EX?
check local for sale sites by you craigs list ebay anything really and find a full turbo set up for anywhere from 350-800 bucks used or new and put it on...run conservative boost on your exhisting motor take it to a good tuner and he should know what the motor is capable of...ask and you shall recieve.. he will tell you what kind of power the motor can make(handle) and also how you can get to your goal...your car is factory equipped with a p28 computer so it shouldnt be hard or overly expensive to tune your car with the set-up you buy...best way to go for a little cash if you save and dont start with little bullshit like mentioned by others before.... just save and do it right...as you progress and save more money after your basic set-up you can always upgrade and improve your turbo or intercooler or tune or all of the above...just remember its not always about huge numbers but what your budget can afford..which is why i tell you save, do it right, and you can always upgrade...ive seen the 1.6 singleV run upwards of 15psi and make over 250whp on stock internals and a great tune....that word i will emphisize... tune tune tune tune...all the parts in the world dont mean **** if it aint tuned...wish ya the best and good luck on your econo-build

Bolt ons on a d-series could easily be called Form>function.
There's not 'function' in shifting your power band to the top end by adding useless parts to it.
