So i just did an engine swap and checked my oil today and notice that there was a lot of anti-freeze on the dip stick. what could cause this? what will this do to my engine? and how do I fix it? I already plan on doing a oil change before i drive again but i need to fix the problem. please help

I do believe that is the sign of a blown head gasket. Im pretty sure if you were to drain the oil you would find that it is a milky color

Headgasket. Oh just a piece of usless info. If you get sever blow by, like a dead cylinder, on alky it turns your oil into a creamy whiteish brown goo.

so i should probably start with replacing the head gasket? and if there was a dead cylinder wouldn't that affect the performance of the car?

If you were running on 3 cylinders you would know... your car would pretty much go nowhere and sputter. If you want to be dead certain, you can run a compression check.

well, I understand that to be certian I need to do a compression test but would the car idle normal if it was running on 3 cylinders? or is there any other signs that it has a dead cylinder other than by doing a compression test? thanks for the help so far.

no it would not... you would know.. start your car up, pull out a plug wire.. thats how it will sound like with 3 cyl's

if you have a dead cylinder the car would run rich...if i were you i would def. start with a head gasket

alright thanks for the response. so i have a head gasket question. i have a d16y8 block from a 98 civic and a d16z6 head from my 93 del sol. so which head gasket do i get? the one for the block or for the head?

well, my oil is very white for oil. milky would be good to describe it. so would that be gas with my oil or water?

just to throw it out there, a craked block or cracked head could cause this as well. the gasket is the more likely problem, but it would suck to replace the gasket and still have a cracked block. i know it doesn't happen much on hondas and even less on civics but it does happen. i hope it didn't happen to you though

ok well now I'm just concerned. How would I know if the block is cracked? is there any way to tell? just so I will know if I should start looking for another engine or just a head gasket.

i would get a Y8 headgasket becuase they are metal which is better IMO

well if your block was cracked you would probley have a small oil leak. if it was cracked in between the cylinders you will be able to tell easily when you do the head gasket. dont worry about it untill you get in there to inspect the block.

ok, i have a dumb question, if the block is cracked than is there anything i can do? or do i have to get a new block? or does it just depend?

you would have to get a new block. your block probley isn't cracked just get the head gasket and inspect around while you got the head off. if it is crack (fat chance) you'll have a new head gasket for your new block
