first get it seperated...
then once you have the whole axle out, take it to napa and trade it in for one of their axles, itll cost you 60-80 bucks, but its lifetime garuntee, so next time, it breaks, take it to them and you get a free one back
but about getting the ball joint seperated, you're just going to have to keep wacking the crap out of it until it comes off

Ok so did you get the ball joint separated? Cause if so, then all you need to do, like the other guy said, is replace the boot.

I dont know if you really want to get the tool thats actually made for popping ball joints off, but its called a pitman arm puller. I got mine from a local autoparts store. its basically a U shaped metal piece witha screwable rod in the middle. the U shaped piece hooks up to the control arm and you screw the pin in until it touches the ball joint ball where the castle nut used to screw into. You then tighten the screw until it pops off. its really neat and it only cost me 10 bucks you might want to go look for one.

Im not having any problems with cv joints / cv axel boots..
The thing that busted was the bushing just above the castle nut. I dont know the terminology for these things and I dont have a manual so , sorry about the confusion.
I removed the long 17mm bolt + the 17mm nut then
I removed the codder pin, the the 17mm castle nut. Then just above it, I hammered. No seperation. So i rented a balljoint seperator from autozone. This thing looks like a fork with two prongs that increases in size as you hammer it inward. I hammered, and grease came from the balljoint surrounding.. sorry for spelling/typing/gramatical errors.. my hands are dirty and cold as ****.. tia again.

Yeah, you're gonna wanna get one of those pitman arm pullers. The forks are good if you don't plan on reusing the ball joints, cause they pretty much kill them.

Re: another problem @#$% cv joint removal.... (CXHatchback)
I've been popping balljoints for years.
I bought one of those pitman arm pullers. It bent the ball joint bolt
You need to get the fork on it, and get a BIGGER hammer. I was trying it with a puny *** hammer and then i busted out a sledge hammer. One wack and pop it was out.
yeah the boot was fucked up, but I've got extras in my garage from Honda ($3.00 each or something like that).
Repack it with clean grease, replace boot, and reuse the circlip (it can be a bitch to twist and manuever it on) And call it good. After that maybe the hammering trick would work, but I just use the fork tool.

Yes that's exactly why I never recommended the balljoint seperator forks - they tear boots.
You must have simply torn your lower balljoint boots. Like others have said, get new boots and grease them up and you should be just fine.
Keep beating on those *******!
