another obd1 gsr motor in a 97 coupe wiring problem...
so................................................
my friend has a 97 coupe (obd2a)
we put an obd1 gsr motor in it
and it has like 5 CELs.
skunk2 intake mani so no butterflies
we did the CFK trick according to www.rywire.com
he has an obd2 dizzy.
its acting like a TPS problem. super low idle like 500rpms. sometimes it dies when coming to a stop.
and you can hear vtec(not sure why wen there is CELS) but you cant feel it
question is. can we use an engine harness from an AT?
i heard something about an obd1 civic engine harness being used somehow? somebody told me about it awhile not sure who (matt sumthng)
any suggestions?
autozone wont scan his car for codes

you can but way easyer to use ex harness and add intake butterfly wiers have you jumped the connector in the passager kick panel count the flashes for codes (see the sticky) poss the iacv you have to do 3 wire to 2 wire conversion and if you use a jumper harness and obd1 ecu no need to do ckf fix.

To OP:
No you cant use an automatic harness.. You cannot use a obd1 engine harness either. The best way to fix this problem is to get a 96-98 Civic Ex harness. Then there are 2 ways to deal with the obd1 issue.
Modify the motor
1. Convert everything on that GSR obd1 motor to obd2a. For example, obd2a injectors, distributor and alternator. This will mean that your 96-98 Civic Ex harness will remain uncut and basically plug and play wiring.
Modify the engine harness
2. Cut and solder your obd2a engine harness and use the obd1 sensor plugs. This means you can keep the obd1 parts on your engine such as obd1 injectors, alternator, dizzy. However, you will have to cut your obd2a engine harness and find plugs from a obd1 engine harness. You can cut and use the plugs from a Automatic engine harness for scrap parts.
For the CKF trick, you only need to do this if your using a USDM obd2 ECU! If your using a obd1 ecu, then you will NOT need to do this trick. You can also use a JDM obd2 ecu and you wont have to do this trick.
My suggestion: Count the codes manually first and post it here for us to see what the problem is. You don't need a scanner from autozone.

Second, check the oil level. This may have to do something with your vtec not kicking in as hard as you think.
Third, adjust the TPS if necessary.
