Default Another Hypothetical Discussion

Car = EG Hatch

My question is over which engine is better for boost when the goal is +20psi.

B18C5 vs GS-R

Money
I've estimated that the C5 swap would be about $1500 more than the GS-R. Let's say that this $1500 was not a major factor. I'm not saying that money isn't a factor, that's retarded. The difference between swap prices should not be a variable in your opinions because one could just save for a few more months if he decided to go with the type-r. My main concern with the money situation is: would there be a difference in cost when building up the internals of the two engines for boost?

Performance
Would the boosted type-r perform much better than the boosted gs-r at high psi, or would they be close to equal?

Reliability
If both engines had the same miles on them and were in the same condition prior to the turbo makeover, would they both have the same reliability? Obviously, anything can happen, but is there a rule of thumb?

Tranny
ITR tranny > GS-R tranny. When running a turbo setup how much would the difference between trannies affect performance, especially in 1st and 2nd gear?

Conclusion
In the end, which setup would you guys choose?

You should do a search... but to make your question simple... Go with an LS. If you want vtec then take the GSR. Spend that extra cash on parts and block rebuild.

comparing a type R to a GSR motor, a GSR motor is more typical for boosting while the Type R is better for NA. My friends neighbor boosted his GSR motor in his EK..engine blew several times from boosting too high hahaha.

i would say get the gsr. in order to have that much boost you would have to lower the compression on the r. besides the head the only diff. between the r and gsr is compression. pretty simple. waste 1500 then detune it. or just buy the gsr and build it. im not much of an ls fan.

how much would the tranny come into play?
should one just get the gsr full swap then buy a real lsd (quaife) or just get the ITR?
i'm leaning towards gsr
