Annoying Driving Noise!
ok i'm driving a 96 honda civic hatch. i posted earlier about this same noise coming from the passenger rear when i had si wheels on it. most people said that there was something wrong with the wheel or it was rubbing one of the two. well i don't think it is either of the two. when i put the new wheels on it the noise didn't go away and i checked for signs of rubbing on the other si wheels and found nothing. i have asked around and heard that it might be the wheel bearing going bad. i have also heard that the brake assymbly i guess could be messed up and the inside of the brakes could be rubbing. the noise seems to get worse the faster i go. any ideas??

well if it's the bearing, do i need to replace it. and if i need to replace it how hard is it. i've never really messed around with that or anything. i'm not even exactly sure what it is.

not totally sure on every step but for the most part its pretty straight forward, remove the rotor and hub, pull the old bearing, replace it with a new one. like i said not directions at all but that is the basic idea.

check your cv boots and axles....if your boots are blown...i think dirt and debris from the road get in between the teeth and cause problems like you just described...
i'm having the same problem myself..been making the noise for the past weeek.....gets louder at higher speeds....could be the hub bearings..but my cv boots have been blown for over a year now... i think it's time for new axles...and then bearings

are you the original owner?????
has the car ever smacked a curb with that corner??????
Replacing a hub on the rear only takes 10 minutes with air tools and the new hub+bearing costs about $100.

okay, to know for sure if its a wheel bearing, drive the car around 30 mph and turn gently left and right. if its a wheel bearing the noise will change pitch when you put more load on it. another easy check is to jack the suspected wheel off the ground and grab the top and bottom of the tire and try to wiggle it. if it wiggles and you can feel play in it, the bearing is definetely bad. to replace it, take the tire off, pop that brass cap off the hub, use a 32 mm socket to back the nut off, then simply pull the whole hub off. the new hub (if you buy oem) will come with the bearing, hub, and new lugnuts all as one unit. hope that helps,

you could have damaged the wheel bearing by using wheels with an incorrect offset, then when you were back to the wheels that the bearing was comfortable with, it begins to behave again...
just a theory...
