Ammonia smell at high rpms
Hello to all,
i recently got a 1993 Honda Civic EG SI with a D16Z6 swap. everything under the hood appears to be brand new. I recently replaced the water pump like 2 weeks ago. i have noticed that at high RPMS like driving on the freeway my car puts off this smell of Ammonia. i checked the head and there doesn't seem to be any type of leakage. i replaced the radiator cap becuase it did have a small leak but that didn't fix my problem. does burning coolent smell like Ammonia? any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Also in the trunk there are a few cans of degreaser, which i assume the previous owner used to clean the engine and what ever misc parts. could this be the cause the of the Ammonia smell?
side note: it currently as of right now has no exhaust from the axle back, it should be arriving at my door any minute now.

Im guessing....no axleback is what you are smelling. Exhaust being trapped behind the bumper and finding it's way into the trunk which will leak into the cabin.

ok i cleaned out my trunk of all degreasers, still waiting on my exhaust to arrive via UPS. after i install the exhaust i'll take it out for a test run and let you know if there are any changes. do you think that it could be chemicals from the degreaser burning off of the engine?

ok problem solved. I think you were right it had to have been the exhaust. I got a type rs exhaust with blue burned tip. i drove it 4 hours last night and not one time did it smell of Ammonia. Thanks for all your help.
