just replace the bulbs with amber ones. go to autozone in the lighting isle, get 4 #75 amber bulbs (i think its #75, someone correct me) and 1 #194 amber bulb. put em in and done. i did that and i love it. looks 100x better imo.

not hard at all. i wouldn't paint it though, try cellophane/film ?

Theres two write ups floating around here somewhere, One for 92-95 and another for 96-00. For painting Cluster bulbs. I did mine and its been months with no issues. Others have had much success too. or you could go to www,autoillumination.com (sp) and pick any color you want.
