everyone is correct, if your speed and odo is not working it has to be the speed sensor, it located in the back of your transmission on the top side, there should be a black plastic object sticking out about a good 2inch or so...cant miss it
can you get a closer shot of the plug?

It looks to me like your car originally came with a firewall mounted map sensor, while your new motor has the map mounted ontop of the throttle body.
On a firewall mounted map sensor, it would sit exactly where that plug is.
Are you throwing any check engine lights?

I've gotten use to driving my car that I won't throw a CEL. But usually when I do, its because I let off the gas in gear and let the RPMs drop below 2K and it will throw a code. Once i restart the car... it goes away... heard it was an O2 sensor problem

Wouldn't he throw a code if the VSS is not plugged in? Just a thought. I know he said he throws a code sometimes, but he should throw a VSS code all of the time if it wasn't plugged in.

check the code that its throwing, if ur speedo isnt working, im betting its the speed sensor code its throwing, sounds like it cause my cousin had the same prob in his G2 teg.

looks like the connecotr to the VSS in that pic.as said above, look at the tranny to see if a plug is plugged in there to the sensor.if it is,either wiring or VSS is bad.
MAP sensor is plugged in,so it's not a matter of the firewall mounted MAP sensor.it's plug is also different from the VSS plug anyway.
from my experience, the ECU will not always throw a VSS code immediately if it is unplugged.check your ECU to see what codes it has stored.

He said the vss is plugged in.
Check your codes.
Let us know what color the wires are on the mystery connector and we can find out what it is.

Re: Am I missing something?? Help Please (HardKor3)
as stated before the plug you have pictured is for a firewall mounted MAP. did the speedo work before the swap? You might want to check your fuses and maybe try another cluster if you have one available. It should also be throwing a VSS code if it is not working. Another to check about that plug is it is easy to confuse with the TPS on the back of the TB. The map and TPS interchange as far as being able to plug into each other.
Sorry If I was no help.

Pull the VSS plug and check to see if there is any corrosion on the pins. Alot of times salt and water can get in plug do to age and climate. If there is clean and put Dielectric grease in the connector to keep oxygen out and stop the corrosion. If this is not the case then you may need a new speed sensor,or your speedo head-(in your cluster) is bad.
