Default aluminum short shifter, how long till stress breaks it

i have been reading around and i have an aluminum short shifter and people say they break off how long does this usully take to happen i have had mine on for around 2 months, if they break fairly quickly i will just get a steel one but if they last pretty long might as well just get another aluminum one ?????

well i read that over time because the shift linkage is right above the exhuast pipes the repeated heating and cooling cause stree fractures in the metal and weakens it a little each time till it breaks

If it does break, which I doubt will happen, you could always pick up a del Sol shifter which is shorter.

or you could just get a skunk2 steel shifter or a B&M, and save yourself alot of hassle...thats the most rediclious thing i have ever heard...shotpeaning is for internal components, not for a shifter that you can buy for about 100 bucks...can you even shot pean aluminum?

I was under the impression that it was hard to break an aluminum shifter but then last night happened!!!

I broke my DC sports shifter by trying to get the shift **** off!! I didn't even break it while shifting!

I doubt this is something that happens often but I am going back to Skunk2

I used to have a Skunk2 back in the day but I sold it because I thought it sat too high... I am willing to sacrifice a little length though for a shifter that wont break when I am trying to get the shift **** off!!

Here's the thread where I broke my shifter!!!
