alternator confusion..Please help..searched
ON a 93 del sol d16z6 sohc vtec, I just put the alternator and belt back on the engine. but now, if the car is on it makes a terrible loud noise. so I loosened it but it now makes another noise and looks like it is about to fall off. So my questions, is there any method or rule of thumb for how tight this alternator belt is? or could it be a bad belt or pulley? please help.

tight as hell. you'll know it's too tight if you break the belt.
for real though, you won't break it.
it kind of sounds like you might have another drive pully or idler pulley that is going. you can listen to the insides of said pulleys by putting a screwdriver on the accessory or mounting bolt for the pulley while the vehicel is running and putting your ear up to the end. a bad pulley will sound rough adn shitty, a good pully will sound silky smooth

Just what the man said. Tight as hell. Put a big prybar in there to hold it while you tighten the bolts.
