Wanted to know what Grade bolt ARP is.

Also wanted to know what you guys think about taking my old head bolts and rod bolts to a machinist, and having him make some outta grade 12 or something.

any input? thanks

Save yourself the trouble and money...buy yourself some ARP headstuds and Rod Bolts.

They are the best in the game, use them.

ya seriously save yourself the money/time to have them machined and buy ARP's. no offense but i doubt your machinist can do near as good of a job as them.

if you get arps, just make sure you use their lube or whatever they come with or you might have trouble with them backing out.

Yea i would just go with ARP or A1 (if you could afford them). But hey you could always do the machinist way and try marketing them if they last on your car. But i would always perfer studs over bolts for the head and bolts over studs for the rods.

Exactly.

You have to think man...ARP is putting ALL their time and effort into developing the best stud available...

no offense is right, but i dont think your machinist gives that much of a damn to make sure they are THAT strong

What some people use, especially in the E30 forums, are what are referred to as metric blues. Mcmastercarr.com has them, you just need to know the length, and thread pitch. Much cheaper than ARP.

I checked that web, looks way cheaper. but I could not find which I needed. i dont know the sizes or measurements.

this kinda sucks, im so tight with money right now and need rod bolts and head bolts. How could a machine shop mess that up anyway? if i were to take him a bolt from the DueceDuece and say make me 10 copies with grade 12. what could go wrong. When i see the price of ARP i feel like im just paying for the name.

what come stock in the H? Studs or bolts?

there all bolts stock. check ebay or elsewhere for golden eagle headstuds. guy im building LSVTEC for got them for 100 bucks off ebay. ARP's will run you in the range of 125 on ebay. im talking B series though , ive never priced for H.

Bolts for the head, and studs for the rods.

Theroritically nothing should go wrong, but if you ever plan on building or boosting, or even nitrious theres a chance of the bolts stretching over time. ARP and other brands are heat treated to make there strenght so high. I believe ARP tensel strenght is in the 250,000 + range.

if your not going to do serious upgrades that you feel will lift your head off your block...go for OEM...you can never go wrong with OEM

What are the messurement of the H series head bolts? id like to get some from that web site (metric blues) but i dont know the size or messurements.

Its not about what can possibly go wrong, its just about quality. Believe me when i tell you....you're not just paying for the name from ARP. They are the best for a reason.
