Alright people I need your help... (CA especially)
So I am driving to work this morning and I blow my single cam... Original motor with a few bolt ons, about 80,000 miles. I drive my car hard, track days, some long trips, and just a lot of overall spirited driving. So I am not that surprised that it happened...
So I am now in a possition where I have a pretty well built rolling 99 EK chassis that I plan to continue building for future "Track use", it will probly be daily driven for another 3-6 months. The suspension is already pretty much finished and I am looking in to getting it caged. I now need a motor or a platform to start building this beast off of. I also have to get my car smogged within these next couple of months that it will be driving on the street, and if you know anything about CA smog or emissions or anything you know this is not fun...
So I ask you where does a guy like me , get a good strong reliable 99-01 B series V-tec motor for a decent price? something that is legit, has a some what well known history behind it (low miles), something that will be able to withstand a track worthy build?
As I am writing this a friend of mine , has suggested this place...
http://www.importautosalvage.com/
anybody have any experience with them or any other advice?
Cliff Notes.. blew my single cam, need a good strong reliable 99+ US Spec- for emissions reasons DOHC Vtec swap and I am not looking to spend an arm and a leg... where do i go?

You can order any B-series motor at HAP Recycling (916). Thats where I purchased mine. You get legit paperwork for the motor so you can ref smog it.
I paid $3300 for a 2k b16a2 with everything needed for the swap. Its pricey, but they offer parts replacment if anything seems to be out of order during your install. I then sold old parts from my D16 and made some decent cash back.

if you're lucky, http://www.attarco.com will have a few usdm motors in stock. they have free delivery in the bay area and 6mo warranties. i bought my usdm b18b1 from them for $650. JDM VTEC motors are a bit harder to smog b/c the high compression causes high NOx readings. you can pass a JDM motor as long as it's the same obd and has the right USDM ecu and stuff.
if you're in socal, http://www.hmotorsonline.com is a great shop too.

Ya, I am not to sure how much I want, or can, spend...
for a B16 I would pay maybe 2500, GSR 3500, or ITR 4500 at the most...
but like I said it has to be a 99+ and it has to be USDM spec...
thanx people.

it's not that much harder to pass a JDM motor. you'll just need a USDM intake manifold, throttlebody, and ECU to make it work perfectly. JDM motors are acceptable replacements for USDM motors, as long as they have the above parts installed.

Noted, but that is another 400-800 dollars worth of parts.. for what? and then i would have a motor that I really ahve no idea what was done to it previously, or what kind of miles are on it for sure...

i bought a usdm b16a TB and intake mani for $150 (to convert my sir-1); the ecu (you'll need it anyway) will run about $150. even if you buy a usdm motor, there's no guarantee that it was treated well. you could run a carfax, but that only tells you so much. if you buy from a reputable company, you'll get a warranty regardless if its usdm or jdm. the ref will not trip that it's a jdm motor, but he will check to make sure the charcoal canister is hooked up right (that' why you need the usdm TB and IM) and the ecu is usdm.
you don't even need to get a usdm IM if you drill/tap on a vaccum nipple for the charcoal canister.
