all you vtec guys...
ok. just did a d15b7/ jdm d15b vtec mini me. i got the car timed damn near perfect. it runs very good... other than below 2500rpms it hesitates a little. and... there is no vtec. the cel is code 21 (vtec solenoid)... or sometimes 22 (vtec oil pressure switch). it changes every now and again. i ran a jumper to the vtec solenoid and it clicked. the pin below the solenoid pops back up after i depress it. im not sure if the vtec oil pressure switch is bad.. but i switched it with a y8 one and still nothing. im not sure if this matters... but i didnt run i ground from the motor to the body (partially because im broooke and dont have any wire). im not sure what my oil pressure is... im hoping its good. im using the p08 ecu. a z6 harness. a z1 timng belt. b7 bottom end. y8 intake manifold.
Anybody know how i can get my vtec to work?
should i mabey try and cobble up a vtec switch to see if something is wrong somwhere else?
Thanks in advance!
AND I HAVE ALREADY BEEN RESEARCHING.

Ok first of all a p08 is a jdm ecu. U need a p28. Make sure your vtec ground wire is ran right. Post pics of the solenoid and wires. Maybe u did something wrong.

Re: all you vtec guys...
i was aware that it was a jdm ecu... but whats the problem on why i cant use it? the fuel maps all seem to work. Would the p28 have good maps to work off of without a tune?

First of all.....a p08 runs a 1 wire oxygen sensor in japan. emissions wise we run a 4 wire one. Unless you have a vx to start with. What model year car is this? This wont help vtec but performance wise and gas wise yes.

Ah. well i dont know if that makes diffirence. Ive had it in some and not on others. So you basically slapped a D15B vtec head on a b7 block right? Please tell me you ran the wires and all to ecu. U said u using a z6 harness. From all the way back from ecu? or just engine bay?

Re: all you vtec guys...
Well from what i know. And anyone can feel free to correct me. None of the cars are prewired for vtec to the ecu. Except 92 models. So you pretty much need to run a wire from the engine tower harness to ecu. Thats why you have a VTEC malfunction coed. Cuz ecu doesnt see the vtec solenoid or pressure switch. Also makes your car sluggish since it throws it into limp mode.

Here i was correct. This should help you out. ignore the p28 vs p08 part. But id suggest you get a p28 for mileage and performance. here is the thread.

Re: all you vtec guys...
Nope. 2 choices. 1 wire it from the cabin harness to ecu on the correct holes on the cabin plug. 2. wire it from the vtec switch and pressure switch all the way to the ecu. Which will end up cutting oem z6 harness. i recommend option 1.
