what is the most wheel hp/torque put down? All motor?
just wondering if it is worth it for a friend who wants to rebuild his D16Z6 instead of buying a swap???

with spending about $800 you can pull close to 140whp....with a d16z....

IMO he should go for the swap and I would go for a LS/VTEC hybrid if he's goin N/A or build-up a B16a and make a mock CTR engine but w/ out forced induction, squeezing horses outta the D16 means astronomical compression ratios which means high octane gas and its all gonna cost a lot more then swapping an LS/VTEC in, but I would be curious to hear some numbers for an all out N/A D16 if someone has some

damn, people have no faith...power can be made from a sohc vtec civic, it is there to be had, it just takes a little more imagination that simply bolting in a more powerfull engine...everytime this damn subject comes up people start flapping their lips saying just go ahead and get the swap and blah blah blah...well you know what, i may just be venting but F a swap...it is far more fun for me i have found out to play with a d series engine...they are cheaper to acquire parts to, more challenging to get power out of, and always the underdog...a little more respect should be given to those individuals that decide to work with their d series engines instead of yanking them instantly in favor of a b series swap...any monkey can pull out a small engine and put in a bigger engine and make the car faster, people have been doing that since the idea of working on cars began, don't think that we are all so original by swapping engines out of integras into our lighter, more nimble civics, back in the hey day of hot rodding engine swaps were as a common a sight as RICED out civics are today...i have had an eg w/b18c, an ef w/b16a, and an eg w/d16z6 and right now i am working on a bone stock 1988 honda crx si that i just acquired and couldn't be more thrilled to face the challenge of pulling some power out of the 'ole d16a6...so i have pretty much played with all of the engines and by far d series engines are the most enjoyable, the sheer cost to challenge factor is great.

Re: for all SOHC VTEC users! (ihaterice)
Dude! before you go losing sleep over this topic re-read my original post. Nobody has bashed the D16. All I'm asking for is a dyno plot with a D16 all motor and daily driven putting down 140whp. Then I will believe that it is possible.....

I wish i had the dyno plot to post, but a guy I know had an 89 CRX with a SOHC vtec from an EG, made 148hp to the wheels all-motor. It revved to about 9500 too. Ill see if he still has the dyno graph laying around.

healthy d16z6 which pulls about 120-125whp with I/H/E, add/do the following the following:
D16Y8 intake (about $50-80)
Zex or Crower cam ($250-350)
shaved head ($60-100)
chipped ecu ($50-150)
VX crank pulley ($20)
shaved flywheel ($100-120)
cam gear ($90-100)
this setup is defiantly capable of at least mid to high 130whp....
my current d15b (stock throught out other then following: 59300 zex cam/header/GSR TB/ecu/exhaust (weight 2300lbs) = ability to keeping up with b16a powered EG (stock 140-145whp EG hatch) (weights at 2450lbs)...(driver weight included)
if you guys want to see a dyno someone give me $25US (needs to be done this week otherwise its gone) and i'll do some baseline runs to see what this 1.5l is able to do...

Re: for all SOHC VTEC users! (Mista Bone)
If I remember right, a guy around here did 137whp with a D16A6, all honda internals, all motor. I honestly can't remember the exact setup, but he basically had really high compression, good P&P, header, exhaust, intake, etc. It wasn't much to get that much power, but it was a lot of tuning and a really high comp ratio (I think he used one of the 1.5 liter motor's pistons, but I'm really not sure).
I saw the plot on his fridge. Torqe was 117 I think.
(If anyone from central Ohio knows Lenky's old car, that is what I'm referring to).
