My friend tells me that if you get a LSD it would suck in the rain, snow, etc..

It does all that here in Kansas and I wouldn't want any problems driving my car in that type of weather.

Any info would be great.

If you car is puttin any nice amounts of power to the ground lsd will just help utilize it better, and like wise you don't want to drive your car under those conditions unless manditory, get a beater.

It depends on the type of LSD. A clutch type LSD is better for low to zero traction situation, so if one tire has almost no traction the other tire will still get power. The gear type LSD's only give a proportion of torque from the one with little traction to the one that has traction.

For example, in ice, if your left tire has zero traction then you wont move at all with a gear type LSD, since a fraction of zero is still zero. With a clutch type, you'll get tractio with one tire and spin the other, but still be able to move.

Well I want to run a quaife, but I don't know if that's a gear or clutch type. I'm thinking it's a gear type though.

From the looks of it, it seems like the gear type wouldn't be any good for my situation.

A quaife is a gear type....so if one tire has zero traction, the other also has zero traction. I'll post the link to the how-stuff-works description of LSD's.
