Post All motor B16a2 build!!!

Hey Guys,

well i'm fairly new at this but bear with me.

I'm building my EM1 (daily driven) w/ a b16a2. I want it to go faster, like everyone else, but do not know what to get next? So far i got in my car is PW JDM whales PP intake, NGK spark plug wires, skunk2 tuner1 cams, bisimoto rep headers 2.5 in, custom test pipe, p28 chipped ecu. Everything else is STOCK. i know what i need now is a TUNE! but what else after a tune? i know going b18/b20 is much better. but i prefer to build this little b16 first.

thanks

It all depends on what your budget and final goals are. Is money limitless? Sleeve, bore out, stroke, and up the compression. While you're at it, get the head ported, polished, and flow mapped, get more aggressive cams, and replace your springs, valves, and retainers.

$5k later, you'll probably be able to keep up with a $2k turbo setup.

I'm kind of new here too, but from what I've learned is that you should always sort out a budget, then hop online and look for the parts that are (at least half decent) that meet your budget. Its always good to set a budget that you know you won't go over, so you have some cash left over to fix anything if it goes wrong while your in the process of putting it together.

Examples: Seals breaking, gasket breaks or leaks, missing screws, .

Stupid stuff like that to keep in mind.

Wow. That's going to be a lot of money spent on going not that much faster!

Terrible idea if you want to actually make power. The normal **** you find laying around online won't give you real gains, unless you really know where to look. Sleeves, crank, pistons, rods.

in my opinion, you are way better off building a b18 set up.. that b16 block is garbage... but then again its ur build and your $
goodluck trying to make it faster

I think you took what I said the wrong way. Aha.

what I meant was catalogs, flyers, etc from shops. Not ebay bs.

Its easier to look at catalogs online then waste gas and drive down only to find out that place is a rip off.

Hint....bigger engines make more power

Get a 1.8 or 2.0L block

If I still had my b16a I would try to get my hands on a set of b16b pistons, rods and crank. Should be lot cheaper than trying to buy the civic type r engine (I don't know how hard it is to find or how expensive these parts are over there). Port & polish the head, pro2s, cam gears and a tune with Neptune.

That should satisfy your power cravings at least for a little while.

Correct me if I'm wrong but these mods are similar to doing an ls swap in a b18c.

bigger block.
throw out your bisi crap rep. even the reps mid range bombed.
put a cat back on.
throw out the whale pp. worst intake ever.

basically go back to stock. THEN research after deciding NA or turbo and a budget.
then come back here and ask again.

3in intake with vstack
custom/plm 500$+ header plm would be cheaper custom would work better.
2.5 or 3 in exhaust.
bigger cams.
b18b1 or b20 block. (id do b1 and use your pistons from the b16 in it.) if not bore out the b16 block a little bit. in which you'd also want higher comp pistons.
new valvetrain.
by chipped is it just a basemap chip or does it actually have tuning software on it?
which is leads to either tune it or buy the tuning software then get it tuned.

thats for a decent mild NA build. i don't know turbos well so you're on your own for that. but theres a whole FI section for ya.

after all of this you'll still have to HOPE that you have money left over for a decent set of koni/GC's and a decent tire. or you'll just have power and no traction.

How would you go about fitting b16b rods in a b16a block? b16b's block is the same as a 1.8 itr block. Taller block with b16 crank and custom longer rods.

Not the same at all cause its not applicable.

People do put ls crank and rods in gsr's to get that lil bit more displacement.

Sell your B16 and drop in a fresh H22 swap with a race header and 3 inch exhaust. That should make about 200 whp hear is my set up

94 civic dx, Jdm H22A
Hytech header, test pipe
3 inch skunk2 exhaust
T2W4 Euro-R transmission with LSD
