there is a little rubber plug covering the screw, so it doesnt get dirty.

There is a screw (usually covered with a little plug [as stated above]) on the top of the throttle body.

The reason that you were asked why you need to adjust this screw is because this is usually not the first course of action when fixing an idle problem.

It would be easier to help you diagnose the idle problem if we knew what changes were made to your car that caused the problem in the first place.

kewl, its gotta be the timing. I just threw in an AEM cam gear about 3 1/2 months ago, when my timing slipped. So yea, thanks again.

if your idle is bad you could have a vacuum leak

There are two screws that have an effect on idle rpm. They are the Throttle Stop Screw (TSS) and Idle Air Bypass Screw (IABS).

The TSS is set by the factory and has a direct effect on the TPS sensor output, as they are mounted on the same shaft. So messing with this screw is never advisable.

The IABS is used to adjust the amount of air that is bypassed around the throttle blade. With a 99 Dx, since it uses a 3-wire IACV, the procedure for setting the idle is different than with a 2-wire style. When setting the idle, for a 3-wire IACV, you do NOT disconnect the IACV connector.

But if all of a sudden you have idling problems, you may want to inspect other things first. What does the maintenance history look like: air filter, cap, rotor, wires, plugs, PCV, valve adjustment.....the basic maintenance items will degrade over time and can affect your idle, even a lazy O2 sensor will have an affect.

FYI: The Helms manual (link in my sig) has all this information, and more....it might help to have one.
