i've been looking around for a great alarm. i dont really care about bells and whistles or flashing lights and all that...

all i really need/want is a siren, microwave thingy for the targa top, the car to be useless after the alarm goes off, and a little pager thing with the best range possible.

figure i'll budget $450 for an alarm system. (self install, assuming its )

can anyone reccomend anything for me? of couse i dont have to spend all $450, but if its worth it, why not.

Just a few that I remember at the moment.

If you do decide to pick one up, just make sure its expandable or have built in features.

Make sure its capable of having a motion detector option, roll down window feature, trunk popper, tilt sensor, glass tap sensor, and others i dont remember at the moment.

Alarms are so sophisticated now-a-days that alot of stuff are integrated into the brain, without having to install a bunch of sensors for each type of option you need.

Im jockin the LCD pager alarms, but I dont know how well they really work.

Basic DEI (Viper, Python, Clifford etc) alarm with a battery powered backup siren, backup battery for the brain, glass break sensor, hood and trunk pins. Then add a couple hidden kill switches.

i plan on kill switches regardless of the alarm.

i just want my alarm to have a siren, microwave sensor for when my targa is off, backup batteries, glass break sensor, hood/trunk pins, and a shock sensor.

thats my revised list of what i need.

compustar doesnt have the microwave sensor. (or its not on their site)

It has a bunch of auxiliary sensor inputs, so you can wire any sensor you want into it. Most alarms don't come with the radar sensor, except the old Clifford (now owned by DEI, new Clifford = DEI = junk...)

http://www.autotoys.com has lots of sensors, sirens, battery backups, etc.

Even if you have an alarm with no extra inputs, you can wire the shock sensor and proximity sensor together if you use diodes.

Anyways I just purchased an Arctic Start (same as Compustar, different badging) for my recently acquired EG hatch

if you live in an area that gets cold temps to..becarefull with the sensitivity you set your glass break sensor to... ice can form on the windows and crack... which sometimes is enough to set off a glass break sensor because some of the alarms just use a microphone for that.. you dont want to be waking up in the middle of the night for some false alarms.. especially in the winter!

Well they are cheaply made and break a lot.

Sure they are better than Audiovox, though.

i was thinking about this the ecu fuse under the hood that you pull to cut the fuel pump off when doing compression checks.
i was thinking about getting a spare fuse cut one of the legs off and swap it when you park the car.

If parked for an extended period of time, I usually pull 4 of the pistons. Works good

i usually pull the whole engine harness, take the fuel pump out, 2 boots in front, chain the back 2 wheels to the tow hook

I have a viper 791xv, they said its supposed to set off when a bird ***** on it or maybe the installer just put the shock sensor where it should be. any other comments?

why not just take out your main relay instead? alot easier to pull that out. nothng to buy and the thieves would have to have one in hand to make the car start as compared to another fuse which is small and they may have.
