Default Airbags

So i left work on break to go get something to eat. im cruising down the road, minding my business, when i see a chunk of something in the road, tried to swerve, but didnt have time to miss it, and it blew out my airbags when i hit it. after my intial reaction of WHAT THE , pulled into a carwash and let my car air out for a bit looking everything over making sure nothing was up, but didnt have so much as a flat tire. Seeing as how this has never happened to me, what the hell do i do. what all do i need to replace, how hard is it. gimme some info

I can tell you right now that if you try to handle this through your insurance company they'll likely total your car.
You'll need a new steering wheel, new airbags/wiring, new airbag computer, new impact sensors (for the front I'm assuming)
Plus labor, other parts, new paint for the car, possibly other electrical parts that will be diagnosed, plus if it hit you hard enough to blow the bags you might have a damaged frame as well.
Oh, and you'll need a new airbag tray or dashboard depending on the car (if the bag ripped through the dash, you can forget making a claim; they'll total it in a heartbeat)

It's simply not worth the insurance company's time and money to fix it all most of the time
Sorry man

In our Civics, the impact sensor is built into the SRS control unit.

94 del sol. it wasnt a collision of any sort. just a chunk of something, basically looked like a cubed block of wood, in the road, my car is lowered, so it could have hit the tranny case, oil pan, front lower frame etc. all i know is i ran over whatever it was and heard a giant bang and airbags in my face.

eh, might as well say, screw it and buy an aftermarket steering wheel and make some sort of airbag delete tray, since apparently noone makes one for the del sol
