Default Airbag question - Having them checked

When I pulled out my cluster to put in my vtec light, I noticed the bulb for the SRS warning was smashed. I don't see that happening for any other reason than someone doing it intentionally, which raised even further question about the previous owners honesty. I know a lot of people have aftermarket steering wheels but I for one always wear my seatbelt and would never voluntarily give up my SRS system (ignorant..)

My question is about taking my civic to the dealer to have the SRS system inspected. I've never had any dealership service or look at any of my cars so I am not really sure how to go about it. Do they charge for this service? If so how much? I realize it could be a different price depending on which dealership but a ballpark number would be nice. I really want to have a working SRS system especially in a car thats already extremely unsafe (sorry guys)

Also what is your opinion on the smashed light? it really pissed me off, like a lot, that the prev. owner never disclosed this to me and I feel like it could be a big legal issue. What if I got in a wreck and my airbags didn't deploy? I had a friend who wrecked his lexus and the passenger died in part because none of the airbags deployed. vent off lol

Put a bulb in it, and see what happens. Light turns on, you have issues.
But, the problem could be a stupid as, the car used to have an aftermarket wheel in it. When you unhook the airbag, and start the car, the system gets mad, and that light will stay on until you "reset" the system. I had this problem with my car.

OR, the guy is a pos and lied to you.

To have the dealer look at it, it could be 100+. Dealer near me charges a $95 fee just to look at it, and attempt to tell you whats wrong.

Start by sticking a bulb in it..

Also, don't forget, it's possible that cluster is not the orignal.

I will put a light in it and see what happens. I know that the cluster is not the original (CX's didn't have tachs) could a different cluster make the light come on? and damn that price is steeper than I was hoping, can't put a price on safety I guess

Nope. I have had a Si cluster, CTR cluster, and SIR cluster and currenty have a ex cluster in my car with no issues.

Honda isn't cheap, and no, saftey is a issue is a main concern. In my mind no expensive is spared when it comes to safety.

I have lost several very good friends due to accidents in Hondas.

You can pull the code(s) yourself easily if you have a paperclip. Use it instead of the SCS service connector tool shown in the pic.

Here is a code list:

And here's how to reset it:

Underneath the steering wheel there is a phillips screw and beneath the panel it holds up is an electrical shorter called a "dummy plug" its a red plug that goes to nothing. If you are concerned about safety you can plug the yellow airbag connector into this plug to avoid an accidental discharge of the airbag until you can have it checked out by Honda. My car a 94ex, had a faulty srs system so I disabled the airbag and haven't had it replaced/fixed yet, but I know I should fix it. Unhook the battery cables first as a precaution
