Default Airbag deployment system

Hello-

I figured I would ask here. Does anyone know exactly HOW the airbag is inflated? Does it have a small co2 cylinder in there than gets punctured?

if you know ANY info, please tell me. Id like to employ this system in something else but would like to know before I go ripping junked airbags apart.

up again.

do these use a solenoid actuator or a soled propellant to pierce the CO2 cylinder?

edit - do ANY airbag deployments use solenoid actuators?

what are you trying to do with it?? You can just put a battery on the bag contacts and blow it yourself.

it is a small explosive that goes off to make it inflate.

Your question is confusing, you ask what inflates it, then you seem to ask how it is triggered.

I also asy google it or ask someone with some time to walk ya through it.

from what i remember it uses some sort of explosive powder similar to gun powder. it gets ignited by an electrical pulse

saw it on history channel a while ago

I dont have a spare airbag, nor do i want to destroy one... those things festh some $$$ if they are in tact

I was asking if a solid propellant forces a piston to pierce the co2 caretidge, or if a mechanical solenoid without any solid propellant forces a piston to pierce the co2 cartridge.

Thank you. Did it happen to mention if any older model cars used a non pyrotechnic system?

basically its a 1/4 stick of dynamite that ignites by an electrical pulse. Wear ear protection and stand far away. ive been hit with a air bag in my 1990 Acura Legend and i couldnt hear for 2 days and my face hurt for weeks
