Default Air Hammer stuck removing linkage pin

Removing the bitch pin from the b series engine so the motor can be dropped. I used an air hammer and got it about 3/4"s the way out but now the dang air hammer rod is stuck inside the hole. It gets larger towards the base I had planned on just jarring it loose a little then removing and hammering the rest out but instead it jolted the pin mostly out and went far enough in to get stuck lol.

Any tricks to removing this damn thing? Plan on just removing the air hammer rod and then disconnecting shifter so I can remove the rest of the linkage once it's dropped out. Can't remove it out the bottom of the car until this air hammer rod is out. It's long and would drag on the ground.

Quite the pickle lol!

Thanks!

Haha yea I didn't know it was called a bitch pin till I looked it up. I'm out of patience for the day. Worst case I'll cut the air hammer bit off and deal with it once it's out of the car. Have to remove the transmission after its out anyways.

There is a couple of things you can try. One is a piece of 4x4, a pry bar and vice grips.

You snap the vice grips onto the air hammer rod, then find a good spot to put the 4x4 against the body and wedge the pry bar between the linkage and the vice grips on the air hammer rod and begin prying down.

The other option if you don't have a 4x4 piece of wood or a good spot to pry with the pry bar, substitute a 3 or 4 claw slide hammer for the pry bar. Latch it onto the vice grips and slide hammer it out.

Hope these tricks prove fruitful for you.

Why are we overthinking a simple push pin? 6mm punch, hammer, done. If you don't have a 6mm punch, you can also use a 5mm hex key.

I tried the hammer & punch for a good 20 minutes before I used my air hammer and managed to get the bit stuck 1/2 through LOL!

Its a pita under the car in 100+ degree weather...I am not a gym rat lol. Should have drank some muscle milk first i suppose!

Ill try the suggested ideas tomorrow and get it done

Thanks

drop trans with linkage. When out, you should be able to hammer the bit out.

I highly recommend the bitch pin punch tool. I had one experience like yours and the money I saved using the air hammer was not worth the hours it took to get it un stuck.

This seems like the only option. Not only that but there usually isn't enough room to swing a hammer under the car unless you jack the car up really high.

Yeah that's why I was suggesting the nice hooked part of a pry bar or even a slide hammer setup. Still going to need the car lifted a fair amount to have room to do anything.

I never got why Honda did this, my old 1986 prelude had a bolt with a large sleeve. Innovative made a linkage set that can unbolt and leave part of the linkage attached, it looks like it also has a solid bushing on the trans linkage.

I don't know y you guys say it's a bitch because it only takes less than 10 seconds for me use right tools and you won't be adding more work to your car

I also got my punch stuck after getting the pin out.
A good set of pliers, pulled on it while wiggling a little bit, got it out after 10 minutes.
I facepalmed pretty hard when I heard that pin hit the floor and my punch didn't slide out.

I'm impressed you can swing a ten pound hammer when under a car that's on jack stands or ramps.... not a lot of space under there.

Civic or Integra (12mm head) AC compressor bolts work well. They're long as hell and the right diameter...and a piloted/self centering point to make it easy to line up. Grab one the next time you're at the junk yard.

I use an air hammer. Also I don't just keep hammering until the bit gets stuck. I stop air hammering when the pin moves a bit. Then I use the AC compressor bolt.

I also work out. I'm skinny...so I fit into tight spots like some kind of goddamn weasel. And I have the cunning and wiley strength of a day laborer.

Bitch pin? Fuggedaboudit.
