Default air/fuel gauge installed, but it stops reading. bad o2 sensor?

i have an autometer a/f gauge installed. its wired to the black/white wire under the steering wheel for power(should be the ignition switch wire) and its tapped into the white wire comming off the o2 sensor harness(this is what i was lead to belive is the signal wire). i turn the car on and it works for a few seconds, then it just goes lean and dissapears. i know from my wideband that im not running lean. is it possible that i have a bad narrowband which isnt working properly causeing the gauge to act funny?

I been searching and cant find much more then i found here. so im bumpin an old *** thread.
I jus also installed an a/f gauge n i have it hooked to the white wire going to the o2 sensor and when i turn on the car the light jus stays althe way rich (reading the furthest green light only)

Whould a bad o2 sensor not let the gauge work????

Well mine jus started working when its warm, when its cold/or idle it chills all the way rich at last green bar

Gonna change out my o2 sensor anyway.

Try letting your car idle for at least 10 min. (after being warm)
then go for a casual drive.....that is when my CEL light comes on n throws a o2 code
