AGH! My civic idle is jacked.
******FIXED!. https://honda-tech.com/zero...age=1
There's a tutorial on how to fix your idle problem. 3 dollars and 1 hour of your time is all you need. goodluck to everyone!
Hi guys, thanks for looking
Well my civic started acting stupid lately, it's a stock civic dx d16y7 1996. The idle is going all weird. I start the car and drive it then once i put the car into neutral and let off the gas, the idle drops down to wear it almost shuts off the engine then it rises back up to a stable rpm to keep the car running. i don't know what's wrong with it, can someone help me figure this one out?
thanks in advance

check your dizzy cap and rotor that could be bad...if not check the IAC sensor or the TPS sensors these could asl be broken

Re: (peterislazyek9)
yeah after checking the gaskets and vacuum lines check the IACV, if it's not throwing a code that doesn't mean there is nothing wrong with it. On my GSR I had the problem that the IACV would mess up the idle.
Could be wiring or it could be the actualy sensor going bad.
Also check the TPS that would also make sense about the idle problem

Do a smoke test. 1. Duct tape up the throttle body 2. Block off crankcase vent tube. 3. Pull brake booster hose off. 4. Fire up a cigarette and blow in the booster hose and look for smoke. This is the sure fire way to find a vaccum leak. This also works on evap leaks too.

Check your idle adjust screw as well, i have experienced this with a DA and the screw was backed out all the way so it did the same thing.
*edit* does being a cold or warmed up motor affect this?

Okay, i checked my vacuum lines and played around with it. The idle is a little better but now it does another weird thing. f.e When i drive at 3000RPM at 25MPH and let off the gas slowly the car starts to jerk and wants to die out. Also, the idle gets better after the car is warmed up. i'll try that smoke test when the weather get's a little better. san jose is POURING at the moment. thanks everyone

Checkup!. I worked on my car today and fixed it. What i did was i took off the whole throtle body and cleaned the IACV idle air control valve. ai also cleaned the TB, i used carb and choke cleaner from kragens, it's like 3 bucks a spray bottle. =] worked like a charm. Thanks for the help everybody. and to everyone else with similair problems on idle, here's a link that might help! https://honda-tech.com/zero...age=1
