Hi guys,

Couple of days i changed the distributor o ring, I used to see some oil at the top of the block (distributor side).. now its gone..no more leaks.

BuTT.. there is still oil under the distributor cap..how it is getting there!

Just contacted the work shop, they said that they dont garantee having the distributor working properly once opened to change the inner seal, and i might need a new one !!
what is the reason behind such asnwer!

It's not that hard on the hitachi distributor. There was a DIY to change the inner seal in one of the threads here. Just do some searching. Or go get a used or new dizzy and slap it in. You can then do repair on the leaking dizzy at your own pace. Its a good thing to have a spare dizzy.

The shop wants to make money. It is faster to slap in a new distributor. Two 12mm bolts, three distributor cap screws and two plugs. A five minute job that they charge you an hour at $100/hr then you pay for the cost of a new distributor with their slight markup.
When they take apart the distributor to change the seal it takes them three hours and you do not want to pay them $300 labor and $2 part. They care about speed and how to make the most amount of money not how to save you the most amount of money. Darn those capitalists.
My wager is you can get the job in three hours. Why would you consider disassembling the distributor when you can just slap a new one in there and be done with the issue? Three hours removing, rebuilding and replacing or fifteen minutes removing and replacing. An easy call when you have the $160 for the distributor.

$300 to replace a inner seal is insane. Not to mention aftermarket ignition parts and Honda's don't really mix well.


Shop here quoted me $100 and that included re setting my ignition timing.

Interestingly, this seal is not on the Honda parts diagrams. You have to order it aftermarket. Plenty of online retailers with it, though. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trks...at=0&_from=R40

Yep. Honda doesn't sell the seal, aftermarket is the only option.
