Default aftermarket timing belt?

I have to replace this a little early, mainly because my water pump is leaking. My mechanic wants to put a Gates belt in while I'd rather have a Honda. Is there a big difference? I'm wondering who actually makes the belts for Honda in the first place.

Also should I get a new Honda water pump? I think the last one was a rebuilt but I'm not sure, but it developed a slow leak after about 55k miles and now at about 80k it's a fast leak and I can't go much farther on it, as topping the antifreeze every day is getting old. Thx.

don't know who makes oem honda belts, but i'm sure that it wouldn't make that much of a problem esp if your mechanic is recommending it... ask him if there is a warranty on the timing belt. i think honda belts are only supposed to be replace like every 100,000 miles. as far a water pump goes... brand new from honda will run you quite a bit. check out "inlinefour.com" they have good prices on oem belt, pump etc... i just got mine from there.

i wouldn't use any timing belt other than oem. Just not worth risking your motor.

The OEM Honda Belts are made by Gates. I just put one on two weeks ago and it has the Gates Logo on it. I have bben told that they are chaeper through Honda than NAPA. I have not confirmed this though. Check http://www.Hondaautomotiveparts.com they are only like $18.00.

This is for a D16Y8 and also the waterpump is like $45.00. Mine was leaking and I didn't know it.

Thank god I had ordered one since people on here recommended I replace it
