Aftermarket Catalytic Converter and CA smog
I have a 2000 honda civic ex that has a bad catalytic converter and my smog check is due soon. My car is completely stock, no modifications what so ever. My question is, will my car pass (sniff test) with an aftermarket cat such as the one in the link below? The visual part doesn't matter. I am in the state of California.

Anyone pass the sniff test with aftermarket cat? I'm not worried about visual, just the fumes reading. Thinking about getting this, any suggestions?

Either go OEM or Magnaflow. No cutting corners. Good luck especially OBD2's are very pricey. I bought my obd1 gsr cat. for $160 and had to get it weld it on. Cheap alternative is to find a good used one from your local Honda recycler. My friend bought a used Civic Ex for $100-$120 I think and it came with a sensor.

Those are the rules for your car that you need to follow in California to replace your catalytic converter. There's a specific Magnaflow one you'd need if you went aftermarket:

If you want magnaflow, you'd need this specific cat:

That is the only way you'd pass inspection.

it may be illegal but it doesnt stop the junkyards from selling used cats all day long. used honda cat is your best bet, thats what I do and it works everytime.
my current car came with some ridiculous aftermarket cat thats tack welded in with exhaust leaks and everything, and even that passes smog
