Default Aftermarket Cam Gears....

i got AEM cam gears for a b18c1 and im trying to set the timing and the marks on the sides dont match up its the two middle lines their off like a tooth..? is there a problem?? here's a pic..

it looks like the exhaust cam is a lil advanced i can really see if it is or not picis to small to tell

not to be a *** but you do know you have to line the cams up manualy right? you dont just put them in ant there good

check this out man i got the cams like this when i bought the car and they where already set... I just replaced the head gasket and I tried to put it back on timing and the cam gears looked off...

The acutal degree of the gears is on zero but if you look the lines on the gears have to be parallel with the head. yours are off big time

how much of a difrence will this make perfomance wise beacause this is how my timing is and the distributor is way advanced and thats the only way it runs right

Not completely sure what's going on, but since you don't have the belt on you can just turn the cams by hand. Make sure cyl. 1 is at TDC and then just align the markings on the gears. If your dist. is way advanced then I would retard it back to normal. The timing looks pretty messed up if this is the way that it was. You're motor not running right, or only running when your dist. is way advanced is a sign that your timing is way off.

Just put the stock cam gears back on. Aftermarket ones dont do anything unless you are going to adjust the timing for any reason. For DD, the stock cam gears work wonders and you will have the correct timing with them.

take off the belt, line everything back up then when you put the belt back on do it in this order, crank, tensioner , oil pum, exhuast cam,intake cam
