After replacing timing belt car wont start
Hi, i have a 1994 honda civic ex vtec stock motor. So heres the story on the car. Just bought the civic then a month later the timing belt snapped on the road, 1 block away from my house so i pushed it back and this weekend i figured i should do a timing belt replacement *maybe the valves arent bent*. So during the weekend, replaced the timing belt with the help of this thread https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-del-sol-1992-2000-1/%5Bfaq%5D-complete-diy-how-timing-belt-water-pump-change-d16z6-lots-pics-649277/ . Install complete, checked the compression on the motor, 180,180,150,170. from left to right. Tried to start the car, and to no avail, car doesnt start. I even took out a spark plug to see if it was firing, and it doesnt produce a spark at all. Went and replaced the distributor cap & rotor, and still the car doesnt start. So my question, do i have to redo the timing belt? (im 90% sure i got the timing right) or did something else F up? PLEASE HELP i am out of clues.

so you know for sure you aren't getting any spark?
make sure tensioner is tight and belt and cam are turning? not trying to insult your intelligence just thinking of every possibility.

check your timing for sure . . . another thing to think about is the coil . . . if the coil is bad you will have no spark either . . . check your fuses first though

Yes, tensioner is tight, belt and crankpulley is moving when im trying to start it, yes i tripled checked the spark plugs on different wires too and i grounded them to make sure it can try to spark. Still no luck

Which fuses should i check? where are they located? and how do i check the coil? is it in the distributer cap?

Where did you ground the plugs to? The valve cover is metal, but there are rubber gaskets insulating it where maybe it won't make a complete circuit?

When you were doing the timing belt, did you loosen or remove the ECU ground? On most Hondas, the ECU ground is located on the thermostat housing or nearby.

I grounded the plugs to the valve cover (thought it would work), but tomorrow ill try to ground it to a different metal surface.

No, you didn't have to. Some people also change the water pump, thermostat, and other things too when they change the timing belt, and then they forget to put back the ECU ground.
When they don't have the ECU ground connected, then the car won't start. That's doesn't seem to be your case.

Hey guys got good news! Bought a brand new distributor from autozone, and the car started right up! So problem fixed. What's weird was that the timing belt and the distributor went out at the SAME TIME. Well thanks for the quick replies fellas.
