After clutch job: Pedal softer, gears stiffer.
I just had my clutch replaced after burning it out like a moron a few weeks ago (seized brake drum). The shop I ended up going to wouldn't take customer parts so instead of getting the Exedy OEM clutch I ended up with an LuK (pn: 08-022) and the pedal has practically no weight to it at all.
The stranger part is that shifting into gears now has a stiffer feel to it, like the difference between a 70° morning's gearbox and a 15° morning's. Since the place didn't bother to bleed my clutch (I had to when I got home because its engagement point was near the floor) I assume they didn't change my transmission fluid either, unless that was necessary in the job.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing the stiff shifting?

I bled the clutch and got its engagement back to normal. I suspect that if they did change the fluid they just put in whatever crap they had lying around.

Just off the phone with the shop and they said it was Honda MTL that the dealership had sent over with the new flywheel bolt. I suppose then whatever it was I had had in there was just thinner which might explain why I barely have a 3rd gear synchro.

I installed a Beck/Arnley clutch kit for someone one time because they couldn't wait to order an Exedy kit. It had a Luk pressure plate with an Exedy disc and it was a fair bit softer than a stock Exedy clutch.
Also, as far as bleeding the clutch goes. There is never any need to bleed the clutch when doing a clutch replacement unless you disconnect the line (which isn't necessary unless you're replacing the master or slave cylinder)

Re: After clutch job: Pedal softer, gears stiffer.
After having a few more days with the new clutch it seems that only gears 2 and 4 are the ones that feel strange. It's almost like I'm having to compress soft rubber while shifting. Since these two gears are activated by pushing the shift rod forward I'm going to have a look under the car to see if there is actually something causing the extra resistance.
