Default AEM intake doesn't fit "perfectly"

Me and my brother installed an AEM CAI on his 96 civic EX and it didn't fit perfectly. The rubber stopper that it bolts to, that bolts to the body wasn't all the way flush, and we had to trim some metal off of the hole that the inttake goes through down by the body. We had to trim metal so it would not touch. It's the correct intake, anyone else had this problem?

so what do you think we did wrong? are there any common mistakes? it seems like a fairly straight forward procedure.

well, AEM does say you have to fiddle with the piping so it doesn't touch the chassis.

its ok....just do whatever u gotta do to get it to fit.......not every bolt-on can be measured to fit EVERY car the same way EVERY time

we would fiddle with it, but then it wouldn't fit right at the throttle body. it just seems like it should have fit better. anyone heard anything about the K&N CAI? Or any other brands? I could prob search... but I'll ask anyway... laziness.

right now the K&N CAI is alot more costly than the AEM..i just think they sold u the wrong fitting intake..did u compare the serial # s of the intake to the model of car its suppose to fit?..there shouldnt be any fitment problems

yea i compared. its the right one (unless they stuck the sticker on the wrong intake). we must be doing something wrong. like i said the rubber stopper thing isn't flush, it's about 3/4 a cm off of the chasis. this and the trimming of the chasis makes it fit nice at the throttle body.

we also had to adjust the idle speed after it was installed. it dropped too low for some reason, you guys had this problem?

I have this problem, too, even after resetting the ECU and letting the engine idle. The engine has only died once and has almost died numerous times when the engine is still a little cold or has just warmed up. I tried all the tricks for bad idles, and nothing cures it. but my friend with a bone stock 96 EX has the same problem, but hers dies constantly in the morning.
