Aem CIA vs Comptech Icebox

Aem CAI vs Comptech Icebox
Comptech Icebox = $330
Aem CAI = $199
Are the gains from the Comptech Icebox that much better than Aem's CAI to justify the extra money?
Is there any proof that the Comptech Icebox won't cause hydrolock?

Re: Aem CAI vs Comptech Icebox (TITEB16)
I had an AEM CAI.....I didn't like it. There seemed to be some power gains, but low end definitly suffered. Plus on my car, and all my friends, the AEM would start to wear a hole in itself where it goes into the wheel well. I am planning on a Icebox soon.....I am just wondering if I can use any shortram intake with it, or do I have to use Comptech's shorty?

Re: Aem CAI vs Comptech Icebox (HXMan)
Make your own Cold Air Box... I just removed the resonator behind the bumper cover, and cut the "U" shaped tube into a "J" shape and replaced the filter with a K&N drop-in. I gained a 7.9hp increase at the wheels on the dyno and to those who have cops that are ******... They can't see a thing. Also since the filter is drawing air from the tube and into a chamber... low end power won't be comprimised. $35 for the filter....can't complain.

The custom set-up I posted above works identically to the Icebox. The only difference is the Icebox doesn't have any ridges along the cover. Go with the home-made mod for $35 and use the spare money to buy a short shifter and still have money left over to spend.

Re: Aem CAI vs Comptech Icebox (sol-man)
Stick with the stock... It won't be noticed because the filter is enclosed the box, and not out in the open like the AEM and other intakes.
