Advice/Help on my new EM1
Recently purchased an em1, it's not in great shape but just needs some love!
Which I want to restore! By the way it's my first B series I own so I'm a lil rusty talking about under these hoods. Everyone's help is appreciated!
So on to the specs...
-Engine block is a B16b
-tranny shows barcode with S4C(LSD?)
-It's running on a P06 ECU( 92-95 civic)
-conversion harness new according to the previous owner I'm guessing matching the ECU.
Weeks later I found a receipt from a tuning company;
Stating that b16b was internally messed with, claiming it had low compression dished pistons...
This statement has been throwing me off since I found this receipt, I really don't know what this project had going on. I have been searching countless hours through the web and trying to find some help locally as well but haven't had any luck, I'd really appreciate advice and help on this.
My other concern is that this receipt also claims that my em1 needs a "2000 civic si" LOWER POWER STEERING BRACKET to correct pulley misalignment...?
1st of all what kind of bracket do I have ? What does a pulley misalignment feel like? And how does this affect my car? Negatives and positives?
So as you can see I got my hands full right now. All I was looking for was a normal Honda civic si em1. And I got someone's project with all kind things mixed around. My original plan was to build my civic, run a B16 engine with a matching tranny and ECU etc, then go from there.
So with your guys experience what do you think should I keep this build? And is it recommendable/ safe?
Or should I switch these parts that don't belong on here and buy original em1 parts that are suppose to come with this car.
Again I really appreciate the help and advice that is offered and sry I'm learning as I'm going so I'm not no pro yet.

Re: Advice/Help on my new EM1
So you've got a B16B block (1996-2000 Civic Type R motor)
With some low comp pistons.
What's the question about it?
We don't know what kind of bracket you have, can you take a photo
IIRC (need clarification on this) The Civic's with B16's in their bay had their own 2 piece powersteering bracket (left side of parts image) while the D15/D16's had their single piece powersteering brackets (right side of parts image). Only the trims and years shown in the image below. Taking a few photos will be the best to help with identification. That or you can just Google some D and B series powersteering setups (or even H and F series) to see which matches what you've got.
Pulley misalignment could probably make your pump rattle, result in a crooked pulley, wear out the bearings, chop up the belt, or just generally lead to a failing pump.
You don't got a huge project as long as it's all just engine wise. Swapping an engine and wiring is easier than gathering OEM EM1 parts for a de-rice build.

Re: Advice/Help on my new EM1
pistons plus ecu sounds like a turbo to me, or someone had plans to turbo but sold before hand.
the pulley though makes me feel that someone returned the car to stock to sell it, had probably removed the ps completely to fit a turbo.
if it doesn't burn oil or run lean though you're probably OK..

according to this thread

(i apologize if the info I posted about the 2piece brackets up above was wrong.)

Also, the hoses themselves, are different (fittings aside)
EK lines are short... The hard line has 1 bend in it, from the rack's opening, in the right/rear.
EG/DC lines are significantly longer... The hard line has several bends in it, routing from the left/rear of the rack and zig-zagging a bit around the chassis.
-->You MAY be able to rebend a EG/DC hard line....but probably not. I have rebent quite a few lines, all without kinking them...but failed miserably with rebending an 01 ITR line... Besides, even if you are able to rebend it (180* in the opposite direction AT the flare fitting) you end up with a hose that's really too long (whether you care about that or not...is up to you)
So...for simplicity's sake:
You need a power steering pump from a 99-00 Civic Si (EM1) and your stock obd2 (EK) power steering lines.
However, you are more than welcome to fab up your own custom lines using whatever pump you want, with matching line/fittings...good luck
Now, as far as brackets go...
Most B series lower brackets are the same. Just snag one off any DC Integra, Del Sol vtec, or Civic EM1.
Upper brackets, however, are specific to the head that you're using:
--B16 = P30 (I assume ITR is the same...but don't quote me)
--GSR = P72
--LS = PR4 or P75 (these 2 brackets ARE different)
You cannot use any of your D series brackets...sorry, TS. I have read about a few people that tried, and if they did fit, it resulted in chewed up belts...fast...

Re: Advice/Help on my new EM1
is there anything wrong with it?
like they said...its probably a turbo project...
about the receipt with steering bracket..it probably had a wrong or damaged bracket before, and had it fixed...
if the belt is not aligned, belt would come off the pulley, it will eat the belt,,might even damage the rest of the belt if it get caught in the main pulley
