Re: Adjustable Brake Proportioning Valve?? (SlowCivicHmm)
Yes, brake proportioning valves can work on Hondas, but you will need to redo your brake lines to make it effective. They are generally used when you have twin master cylinders (as in race applications) where one master cylinder feeds the front brakes and one feeds the back brakes. If you have the stock porportioning valve in your brake system, you would have to remove it and re-plumb the brakes accordingly.

so this does not replace the stock valve on my hatch??
so not an altervative to the teg 40/40 valve???
reason I ask is that I'm doing a rear disc conversion on my vx

OK, the stock unit actually has two cylinders in it (my '87 Si does) - or get a dual master cylinder assenbly from someone like Tilton, etc. Either way: one of the cylinders are plumbed only to the front brakes, the other only to the rear brakes. You install the proportioning valve in between the master cylinder and the line that feed the rear brakes, if you want it to make the rear brakes less effective. You would put it between the master cylinder and the line that feeds the front brakes, if you want to make the front brakes less effective.
You can add a pressure gauge block in the cockpit to measure the actuall pressure to each pair of brakes, but that is only part of the equation...you need to take into account the effectiveless of your fonr vs. rear brake. Typically the front slave cylinders (in the caliper) are larger in diameter than the rear slave cylinders - making the front brakes more effective for the same given pressure. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/brake3.htm - read this for the explaination why...

you lost me bro!!
I'm refering to......you know when u do a rear disc conversion, you use the teg prop valve to even out the braking.....is this the same thing is what I'm asking...............

Re: Adjustable Brake Proportioning Valve?? (SlowCivicHmm)
If you change over to the rear disc brake setup, they should be more effective than the original drums...therefore, you would need to change the proportioning valve that was designed to be used with the rear disc brakes. But I still don't think you are out of the woods...if the front disc brakes (that came from the car you are getting your donor rear disc brakes from) are larger than your current front disc brakes, you are going to be out of balance again. Do you know the relative rotor/caliper sizes of both front disc brake systems?

Thatw as not my question...I appreciate all the comments and the knowledge you guys gave me.....
"is this adjustbale valve the same thing used from an integra for a rear dics conversion upgrade from the stock civic prop valve..."
Thats my question...I understand what it does.....
Anyone get what I mean??
