Re: Acura 1.6 EL Tech Thread
Well, it was a blustery, wet day today, so I decided to snap a couple of pics from out the window of my apartment of the EL in the parking lot. I kinda' collaged the pics with the earlier pics I posted as before and after comparisons. Here ya' go.......
Been drivin' on the new Eibach Pro Kit System for 2 1/2 weeks now and I couldn't be happier. It does feel firmer, but definitely not bone jarring stiff. I'm liking the stance too. Not slammed, but noticeably lowered. All in all, great suspension kit for a daily driver.
The Flowmaster Axleback was installed as well. Running a complete OEM exhaust other than the axleback. It's not loud at all. It's got a throatier tone to it. I'd say sporty rather than racey. At cruise it's not even noticeably audible compared to stock. However at WOT, it sounds intoxicating! I've never owned a car with a 7000rpm redilne before. Maybe it's the vtec that makes it sound so cool.

Re: Acura 1.6 EL Tech Thread
Thanks, Panker.
I'd say that it's definitely contributing to the poor MPG. Check this out............
Two factors conspire to contribute to your decreased MPG;
1) Tire circumference is much bigger ...and........
2) Bigger tires = more weight.
All things being equal regarding drivetrain, power, gear ratio, final drive and such. In this case, only the tires are different, and somewhat dramatically so.
Takes more energy to get momentum with bigger, heavier tires.
Having bigger diameter tires does affectively provide a higher final drive, (lower numerically), which in theory gives better MPG 'cuz the engine's revving at lower rpms at a given speed compared to stock diameter. The down side of this is that it takes more energy, (fuel), to keep up the momentum of that given speed with larger diameter tires.

Thanks Nexus, i've been suspicious of this for a while. i'm going to be getting a set of winters of the correct tire size, so we'll see what happens.
Last week, my car threw a P0171 and P0170 code, system too lean. i checked my exhaust manifold and found a missing nut had come off and that most of them were loose. i had reused my old ones with the new header so i think they were worn. i bought a new set of nuts and put them on and erased the codes while at the same time bringing my ignition timing back to stock (i advanced it a bit). let's see what happens now!

Re: Acura 1.6 EL Tech Thread
update on my side,
I had an overheating situation in the past 2 weeks, where the fans do kick in but it doesn’t cool.
My reservoir was full. After the car cooled, I took off the cap to find about 1L of coolant was missing, so undoubtably the air pocket created the overheating.
The funny thing is why didn’t any coolant get pulled from the reservoir?
Thinking that it might be a hole in the hose to the reservoir and also my cap, I replaced both.
My old cap was a little gummy and compared to the new one a different design in that the new one has an extra piece on the end about the half the size of a dime and extends another 1/8” of an inch.
Since replacing both, I do find that my car reaches operating temp much faster.
Everything’s stable for the last 2 days but I have yet to check coolant levels in both the rad and reservoir.
I’m interested to find out if the new cap and hose is the solution to my coolant loss issues in the past and if it has any impact to my fuel economy.

Since you mention overheating and a full coolant reservoir, perhaps your thermostat is faulty and not opening up when the engine reaches optimal operating temp.

Re: Acura 1.6 EL Tech Thread
Today I learned that there are two different power heated window switches. One has two plugs and one has one plug. the one plug version has a light on the heated window button to let you know its depressed.

I live in Alberta and we have two main junkyards to choose from. Pick n Pull & Bucks Auto. Hands down, Bucks is the better choice. They do not charge a cover charge to get in, like the other guys, and prices are literally about "half" for the same parts

Re: Acura 1.6 EL Tech Thread
I have a 2000 1.6 EL. To my surprise, the ecu and harness is OBD2A, not 2B as expected for the year. And in the EL Honda Service Manual, the wiring pin outs confirm this.
So to sum up: All Acura 1.6 EL's, from 97-00 are all OBD2A.
Beware!
