AC TECH's: Easy AC Question. 94 Civic.
I did search so save those dumb posts, I can find no post with the info that will help me. This is a basic AC question which I can find no help.
Car is a bone stock 94 d16z6 civic, 67k original miles now. I bought the car rougly 2 months ago with decently cold AC. 2k miles or so later the AC is now blowing room temp air but never cold like before. Compressor kicks on, all settings work. From what I have read, it seems that its prob time to vacumn out the freon and put in new freon, does this sound like a pretty good idea of my problem? No AC in Texas SUCKS! Thanks

You should also do a leak test. You said it started out cold but now it's not cold at all, so a leak test would be good along wif the vacuuming.

Yeah, you need to recharge your AC. All you have to do is buy a can of ac(freon) with the hose and hook it up to the inlet on the hose. While you do this, put your AC on full blast, so it can blow out that ice cold air you want. If you buy the can of freon, make sure that you buy the one with the hose and guage on it, you dont want to overfill your ac...you definately dont want it to over fill and have it dump all over your hand...ouch
hope this helpz

Let me try to help....Put a gauge on your A/C system and read the pressure readings and watch the needle. If the needles bounce or fluctuate you may have a compressor going out, If the High-Side and the Low-Side are both reading high pressure you re not getting any airflow thru the condensor or your fan might not be pulling enough air thru it or your lines are dirty. If the High-Side reads high and the Low-Side reads low you might have a plugged A/C line. If both sides read low than your out of freon.....Give it try and PM me the results ill walk you thru everything. Hope this helps

Well I just left a local AC shop, he hooked up his guages to the high and low side with the car on and AC on full blast, he said the left guage was a little low but not bad and then I turned the car off and he left the guages on and he said it was fully charged. So come to looking right next to the compressor, I have this connector which is one side that apppears normal but the other side is just a tiny paper clip sized metal piece going into it, well it had backed out some. I pushed it in and after i left the shop which he said at best he would replace the dryer, expansion valve and new freon, and on the drive home the ac was as cold as it has ever gotten. Now it was so freeze your butt off cold but decently cold, so maybe this ghetto rigged connection is my problem? Its almost directly next to the right fan, above the compressor? Any ideas? Thanks

If you want to do it the rigth way you'll have to use a vacuum pump to pump all the freon out of there and create -30 PSI pressure in teh system...then let it sit for 20 minutes and see if it gains pressure (moves towards 0) - if it does, there's a leak someplace in the system.
