Are AC compressors for all EG's compatible?
I have a 1993 Civic. My AC compressor is dead. Was wondering if I can just get a used one from any Civic 92-95.
It seems like they would be but after looking at 1993 and 1995 on this website, they have different part numbers.

Re: Are AC compressors for all EG's compatible?
I've actually been researching alot here the last two days because I am going to be doing a complete conversion over to R134a from R12 Freon.
From what I have found out your system needs to be all R12 or all R134a. Your 93 is R12. 92-93 are R12 and 94-95 are R134a. The R134a compressors won't work with the R12 lines and vice versa. So you need to convert over to a R134a system or get an R12 compressor and someone with a license to get you R12 freon. R12 freon is very expensive. You can convert to R134a using your old R12 components but from what I am reading even doing it that way won't yield great results. That's why I am trying to find a complete A/C System from a 94-95 Civic.
Hope this ramble helps you a bit. Good Luck.

Not a problem. From what I have read, if you go the route of keeping your R12 components and convert over to running R134a Freon, a lot of the conversion kits come with an Esther oil aside from the fittings and new o rings. The Esther oil supposedly makes it to when you charge the system with R134a that it won't have a harsh reaction to the small amount of R12 residue that's left in the system. But from what I have read you still won't have great cooling results using the 134 with the R12 components so its best to use all R12 components with R12 freon or all R134a components with R134a freon.
I have found out though that there are A LOT of opinions out there about this stuff.

For what its worth, I just called an AC store. They informed me that I just get the same year as my car compressor, in my case 1993, and then I can simply get a changeover kit to convert it to r134.
