AC Bog issues
Hey everyone.
So my wife is having some issues with here 2000 Civic EX. Everytime she turns on her AC the whole car bogs down and runs rough.
Ive done all of the usual maintenance with in the last month, Plugs, wires, fuel filter, Battery. I also ran down to the local parts store and had the alternator checked because I figured that was the issue but I was told it was fine.
So now I ask you guys if you have an idea of what it could be? the only other guess is that the serp belts need replaced. Im thinking that maybe the belt is slipping when the AC Compressor kicks on??

I haven't checked the belts but I know they are worn because the car I high mileage and probably haven't ever been done. its not the normal bog you get from a cars AC it bogs the entire car down and runs like crap

I don't know about bogging but those D-series engines aren't too powerful to begin with. You lose a lot of power when the A/C is on and sometimes it will appear as if the car runs rough when you first turn it on.

bogging when a/c is on means the a/c system is over charged, it has too much freon in it and it is hard on the compressor which makes it hard to turn and with a engine that has 100 lbs of tq maybe not even that at the wheels, it would feel very sluggish.
Vac down the system and refill with the proper amount
Example: factory specs say between 21.5oz-23.2 oz
put in 21.5 or 22oz and try that Seen this situation so many times its not even funny, too much freon can make everything struggle

What kind of engine do you have? Auto or manual transmission? If it's manual, check IACV. It could be clogged and not getting extra air to support the engine and bogging it down.

I doubt that its over filled, shes had the car since 100k miles and just rolled over 230k and hasn't been touched the whole times shes had it.
Its also at Automatic trans so I guess the IACV isn't really an option

Does the condenser fan run when the A/C is turned on?
Are the condenser fins clogged with bugs and road debris?
If you unplug the compressor connector (red wire) so the clutch can't engage, does the idle speed increase when you press the A/C button?

ill check all of that stuff this weekend.
would it be possible that the system could have a small leak in it and the system is trying to overcompensate for it?

right now i have 1.2 ounces of freon in my car and the idle is pretty bad like when im parking my car idle drops to 100-200 im going back to the shop tomorrow i need to know how much more i need to take out
