About short ram intake...
Thinking of upgrading my intake and I was considering short ram. While browsing pictures I noticed most, if not all of them were pictures of the intake filter not housed in the plastic (or whatever) casing. I thought this was essential to help block some of the engine heat. Can anybody shed some light on this? thanks.

Re: About short ram intake...
i believe OP is asking why most aftermarket short ram intakes don't have the black housing typically found on a factory intake.
Here's an aftermarket intake with the housing you're talking about, off of talkJDMs car
^it's for sale btw as far as i know

Usually the ones with the extra shielding are extremely expensive. You can fabricate your own but they are pretty much as you see them-bare filter. That includes expensive ones like AEM. They don't increase power to any point that you can actually feel it. It may help increase gas mileage but that's about it. You're better off keeping your stock airbox and dropping in a K&N filter.

I was just trying to confirm. You said most don't come with the head shield and they are expensive to make yourself. Suggesting something sometimes isn't good enough for someone who is trying to get conclusive information. I'll just assume you said it was 100% A-okay and I'll put it on.

You have seen countless pictures and I can show you countless more of exposed cone filters. Do you really think all those people are doing something wrong?
Confirmation is one thing. Second guessing things to the point of inaction is something else.
